Hi everyone.

As an absolute beginner


I recently got my hands on a Wismec Atomizer RTA. Which is DL by default, which I don’t really like. I also received it with a 0.20 ohm coil, with cotton.

But in a resourceful way, I went to an electronics store and bought 0.5 mm resistance wire, and made a coil for it to 0.65 ohm. After changing the airflow plate and with minimal opening, it works nicely, with good flavor. Cotton: Japanese UD organic, liquid: 50/50 + coconut aroma + 8mg nicotine.

Result: It hits hard on DL, it’s acceptable on MTL, although the amount of vapor is low.

I would appreciate your opinions! Both good and bad!

What diameter is the coil? Based on the picture, the wire looks quite thick. And it might help a lot if you know exactly what material it’s made of?

I’d gladly give you a proper MTL atomizer, but unfortunately, two weeks ago I gave away all my unnecessary stuff
 I’ll look around tonight though, maybe something escaped the tidying up.

A 3 mm drill bit was used for this purpose, cleaned to metal purity and sterilized, of course.

I was able to buy 0.5 mm resistance wire, magnified it’s visible that it’s a solid single strand, I think it’s Kanthal wire, although I didn’t ask the seller.

I would be very happy about the latter, because since the 3rd there has been no news about the Brunhilde from the sourcemore order

Experiences after some use:

For MTL, almost no vapor when exhaling


For DL, the nicotine hits hard


In both cases, it feels like the vapor settles in my throat.

Perhaps a smaller coil size and ohm, with higher wattage will be the solution, and the little one will remain for DL, and for MTL, the Geekvape Sonder with the 0.8 ohm pod head.

Could diluting the nicotine with 50/50 base liquid and adding flavor be a solution?

Suggestions?

Based on the pictures and description, you did the coil build well. Because as far as I know, 0.5 mm wire corresponds to 24 GA, which should be just right for DL. (Hopefully, it’s actually kanthal.)

I find 12W too low for this set-up, you could go a bit higher with it, because the recommended setting is a maximum of 4.2V, 27 Watts, so perhaps somewhere around 20-25W might be better.

With the devices you currently have available, not much more can be achieved, perhaps by slightly varying the number of wraps or the inner diameter. But I don’t think it makes sense to coil it on a smaller diameter with this wire, as the number of wraps would become too high. Of course, you can try it, but there’s little room for maneuver.

However, for DL, if you stick with this setup, I would definitely dilute the 8mg, because that might indeed be too much and hit you hard. Somewhere around 3 would be ideal, or if it’s higher, then vape less.

Also, for DL, many people use 50/50, but you can also try a 60 VG/40 PG, or even a 70 VG/30 PG base. With the right settings, this will have a favorable effect on the vapor production, less so on the flavor.

Unfortunately, the wire you have is too thick for MTL builds; for that, you would need thinner kanthal wire, e.g., 28 GA.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, or if there’s a better suggestion.

There is also 0.3 wire, I got that for the tank with the broken glass, but I’ll keep that for the ‘lady’. :grin:

DL is airier, yes. I don’t know the atomizer mentioned above, so you’ll have to experiment with the settings that suit you.

If you’re more of an MTL person, you can try this a bit tighter too.

RDL is my favorite too.
