Pulp shortfill review

Introduction

Thanks to Calumette, I’m back with a slightly different kind of review! This time, 4 shortfills are the subjects of the test, and all 4 are intended to reflect different flavour profiles. There will be tobacco, fruity, sweet, and cocktail options among them. Honestly, this is another test I’ve been eagerly awaiting, as it’s not just about a brand unknown to me, but one of the best in France! I will be presenting shortfills in the coming minutes that are not only good for their flavour but also for their practicality! First, I’ll summarize in a few sentences exactly which manufacturer this is:

Pulp is an aroma and liquid brand whose flavours are entirely designed, manufactured, and tested in France. They always work with quality ingredients and are proponents of authentic flavours, which they aim to provide to users. They have been present on the market since 2014, starting small, but their popularity and reputation in France have only grown year by year. So much so that a whole factory now ensures authentic French quality when it comes to liquids. Within the scope of this test, we can get a little insight into the flavour worlds cherished by the manufacturer!

Regarding practicality, as you will see, Pulp shortfills come with one or even two 18mg nicotine shots, resulting in a 60ml liquid with a strength of 3mg or 6mg. Since these nicotine shots are also flavoured, the flavour of the liquid is not compromised, and they don’t even have a steeping time! All you have to do is pour in the shot (if you can, but more on that below…), shake it, and you can start vaping! Although it’s advisable to let it steep for 1 day. Let’s see what we’re facing!

Virgin Mojito

The Mojito, as a drink, consists of soda, sugar, mint, and of course lime, plus optional alcohol, but that’s omitted here, as the Virgin Mojito is non-alcoholic in real life too.

The aroma is enticingly limey, slightly sweet, and the mint is also subtly present, though not overwhelmingly so, like the youngest child who always lags behind but tries hard to keep up. The soda, with its otherwise odourless nature, is of course not present, and the fizzy sensation is also missing, at least from the scent.

In contrast, the taste hits you so hard you’ll sit down from it! The lime is the driving force, no doubt about it, but due to the sugar (sweetener in this case), it’s not sour or tart at all; the sweetener absolutely compensates for this. However, we get a strongly limey, mouth-wateringly sweet Mojito, from which the mint cannot be missing. Mint, which so many people love, especially in the summer. If you love it, if you really love it, if mint flavours truly hold a special place in your heart, then you won’t be disappointed with this shortfill, I guarantee it! Do you know that fantastic feeling when you suck on an ice slush with a straw until your forehead hurts? Exactly! This can do that! At least, I was blown away by it. The sweet, yet not excessively sugared lime is combined with mint so intensely that I could achieve a brain freeze state through chain vaping! The soda, or rather the fizz, I don’t think is detectable, but it wasn’t really missed, I would have just mixed the bubbles away… There’s no distinct aftertaste, as the minty sweet-lime flavour of the Virgin Mojito remains in your mouth simultaneously after vaping, which only starts to gradually fade after a few minutes, though the mint remains noticeable for much longer. I regretted that it was so minty because the sweetened lime is so pleasant that I could have vaped it all day. This was the best for me in this heat. Pulp managed to find the harmony between the sour fruit and sweetener, thanks to which neither overpowers the other, making it irresistible for anyone who loves citrus, sweet, or minty flavours.

Overall, we can taste a truly delicious, sweet Mojito with a good amount of mint, which can be particularly refreshing, of course, if we don’t overdo the chain vaping! This would be my No. 1 if I didn’t find it excessively minty! But of course, it’s possible, and even certain, that in this case, the mint is too much for me, while others might love exactly that, making it suitable as an all-day vape.

Dragon Fruit (Fruit du Dragon)

They didn’t overcomplicate this at all. The manufacturer promises only the natural sweet taste of dragon fruit, or pitaya.

On the nose, we first encounter the sweetness, immediately followed by the dragon fruit itself. Even from the scent, it quickly becomes clear that we can expect a mouth-watering sweet fruit from this shortfill, without any frills.

In terms of taste, the first thing we encounter is, surprisingly, a cooling sensation! Although it’s not mentioned anywhere, it’s absolutely noticeable, but it’s so minimal that in this case, it only serves to keep the otherwise vividly sweet dragon fruit fresh for us. I would place the level of sweetness roughly at the level of gummy bears, as it is indeed sweet, but not like sprinkling powdered sugar on a cake, but rather like snacking on dragon fruit-flavoured, slightly minty gummy bears. The gummy bear reminded me of its silkiness, which is also immediately noticeable. Besides being sweet enough for me, the sweetener is not at all intrusive, even later, making it very pleasant to vape and always feel fresh due to the cooling. As an aftertaste, the sweetness remains the most prominent, naturally accompanied by the characteristic flavour of the fruit, but the latter is the first to disappear after a few minutes, leaving behind the refreshing sweet sensation. This flavour was the biggest surprise for me, as I don’t believe such sweet fruit exists, but the French truly know their craft, because in addition to being heavenly sweet, the flavour is present with the same intensity throughout, and this also characterizes the Virgin Mojito, where even the mint doesn’t pull the sweet, juicy lime in another direction, no matter how strong it is.

Overall, it’s truly just a simple dragon fruit, not enhanced with other flavours, but its sweetness provides a certain silkiness that maintains a pleasant sensation. Thanks to the slight cooling, the flavour doesn’t degrade easily, and it also helps us to truly declare this an all-day vape!

Vanilla Extreme

The manufacturer promises vanilla biscuit with caramel and milk.

On the nose, we detect a truly pleasant, slightly caramel vanilla, with a sweet undertone. Even from the scent, it’s evident that it’s not overly intense, but of course, this is typical for all vanilla flavours.Taste-wise, it can be considered much more complex. At first impression, we can’t talk about a blend, because the flavors don’t mix with each other with a fresh coil. With sufficient attention (this is entirely cotton-dependent), we can establish an order in which they follow each other. First, I discovered the biscuit character, onto which the caramel gently layers itself, it’s almost caramel biscuit, but there’s a hairline boundary between biscuit and caramel that I think is discernible, but it can disappear over time. Vanilla dominates on exhale, but its taste itself isn’t exaggerated, yet it is very defining. None of the flavors overpower the others. This is embraced by a milky smoothness that is never felt as a separate flavor, but is present as an additive as usual, making the three main flavors silky smooth, mouth-watering, and sweet, like vanilla pudding usually is, only this is sweeter, and the caramel pops up in it. With a slightly rough coil, the flavors can blend together, where vanilla is no longer really noticeable, and perhaps it becomes somewhat sweeter due to the caramel. The milky smoothness accompanies all stages of coil gunk buildup, so it remains pleasant towards the end, but the flavors by then no longer resemble what was written in the first half of the paragraph, and the order completely disappears. Instead, we get that slightly caramel, sweet vanilla pudding flavor, which I personally love, but this too can easily vanish if we don’t tend to the coil, so this flavor definitely requires a coil change after 2-3 days. It’s finicky! Just as all vanilla flavors have always been finicky, so I handled this one cautiously. On one hand, because it’s filling, and on the other hand, vanilla flavors, regardless of what other flavor they’re paired with, depend on the build for how they vape! If the tank, or coil, but most importantly the cotton is not suitable, then unfortunately, we will hardly taste anything from the vanilla flavor profile. So it’s worth paying attention to this!

Overall, it can be an excellent choice either with morning coffee with milk, or as a relaxing afternoon flavor, but it also absolutely suits a little chocolate or cake time. However, I wouldn’t call it an all-day vape, as it becomes filling over time. Its sweetness is just right, not exaggerated, and it doesn’t leave us even with a gunked-up coil, but due to vanilla’s pickiness, it’s not worth letting the coil get gunked up. For me, this is another No. 1!

Blond With Dark Honey (Blond au Miel Noir)

The manufacturer promises a classic blond (mild) tobacco, spiced with Middle Eastern honey and nuts.
On the nose, honey is the first thing, somewhat reshaped by the tobacco into a darker, matte scent, but the characteristic sweet-honey scent doesn’t become unrecognizable. For me, the combination of these two reminded me of the scent of licorice, but luckily it quickly dissipated once I realized it was a honey tobacco, and then I no longer found a parallel between the mentioned sweetness and the liquid. The nuts are not detectable in the scent.
Taste-wise, it seems like a plain honey tobacco at first, which means that the intense tobacco flavor is joined by the dominance of sweet honey, making the overall impression sweet, but not very, just slightly, as the honey reduces its intensity due to the tobacco. The nuts might be hidden somewhere within the tobacco, they don’t show up clearly, but they add a certain something to the tobacco that leaves a dry aftertaste in our mouth after exhaling, like when we eat walnuts raw. The honey also lingers in our mouth for a bit after exhaling, but not for long, then it leaves the aforementioned drier sensation. The tobacco itself has a distinctly strong flavor, making it the leading flavor, which is perfectly complemented by the equally strong flavor of honey. As time passes, the sweetness of the honey begins to dull, but the taste of the honey itself starts to integrate directly behind the tobacco. When the two main flavors blend together after 1-2 days with a gunked-up coil, I think it’s most pleasant. I couldn’t distinguish the nuts separately, but I’m sure they are hidden in the tobacco, as the little something that nuts and their kind can provide is faintly felt for a while after exhaling, until the coil becomes gunked up. Frankly, it was divisive for me, perhaps because of the honey, but I was pleasantly surprised because it didn’t go in the direction of a strangely unpleasant taste and smell that honey flavors tend to go when the coil has had enough of it.

Overall, it’s a quite strong flavor, which is not my usual genre, but it’s definitely not bad, though it became filling for me after a few hours. Therefore, I don’t think it’s an all-day vape, and I couldn’t say what it would pair well with; even coffee didn’t really go with it, as it’s too much honey for that, but like Vanilla Extreme, it was perfect for relaxing!

What else is important

All shortfills have a 30VG/70PG ratio, which, seeing/hearing this, might not be surprising that I found them so potent. I think every flavor is absolutely outstanding. They are perfect in quality, leading in experience, although they are indeed sweet, but fortunately, the tobacco one is not excessively so, only as much as necessary.

If you’re looking for a throat hit (TH), you won’t find it, so you’ll need to crank up the coil! Instead, they are all silky and smooth. The cooling and mint don’t interfere with the sweet flavors, and the fruits seem truly lifelike. All of them are flavor bombs, even Vanilla Extreme, but only if we vape them with the right build or device, which for the mentioned liquid is a POD. Although it was also great in an RTA, it performed best in a POD.

In Vanilla Extreme and Virgin Mojito, there was more liquid than there should have been, so the 10ml of 18mg nicotine shot of the same flavor didn’t fit entirely. In Vanilla Extreme, there was roughly 7ml too much, and in Virgin Mojito, about 2ml. To avoid this coincidence, it’s good to have a larger bottle nearby to pour into, or to empty a tank or two, and then the rest of the shot will fit into the 60ml bottle. You don’t need to remove the entire dropper for this, as the tip is screw-on, for which Pulp gets extra points. Despite this minor inconvenience, I was satisfied with its practicality.

Devices

Which I used for the tests:

  • Aspire Flexus Pro POD, 0.6 ohm AF Meshed Coil (a review of this will come soon)
  • Hellvape Dead Rabbit Solo, 3mm inner diameter, 5 wraps SS Coilogy Tri-Core Fused Clapton, Vapefly Cotton Cloud’s cotton
  • Vandy Vape BSKR Mini V3, 2.5mm inner diameter, 6 wraps Zivipf Kanthal A1, BP Mods and Vapefly Cotton Cloud’s cotton (1.6mm airpin)

In PODs, they are the most potent, meaning fruit flavors are sweeter, mint and cooling are stronger, Vanilla Extreme is more pronounced, and Blond With Dark Honey is more honey-like.
With DL RTA, all flavors are more flavorful, but it doesn’t specifically highlight additives (like mint or cooling), nor does it amplify any of the flavors in the compositions at the expense of others; it simply vaporizes more liquid due to the multi-strand coil, making it just more flavorful.
With MTL RTA, all 4 flavors were best for me (though Vanilla Extreme is better in a POD), as nothing was exaggerated, just the usual intensity of flavor, but the mint in Virgin Mojito is incredibly minty in everything, whether that’s good or excessive, I’ll leave that judgment to lovers of mint/menthol flavors.

ShippingDPD brought the package, which reached the pickup point within 3 business days. It was important for me that the courier didn’t knock at home, even though I am at work, so one of the advantages of shipping with DPD is that even if you can’t necessarily choose a parcel shop on the Calumette site (because there’s no option for it), you can still change the delivery to a pickup point with Hungarian DPD based on the information received in the email the day before delivery. However, it should be a well-thought-out decision, as their system only allows one modification.

Generally, I liked all the flavors, and I hope you will like them too.

Thank you for reading! Have a nice day! :hugs:

Pulp Fiction)
