Hi Gergő! Thanks for the ping, I’ll absolutely help, this is a super important question, especially for the new faces!
Tibor and Gazsi0906 are both right: buying nicotine base liquid online is no longer an option, but DIY (Do It Yourself) mixing is fortunately super simple once you understand the basics.
The Most Important: Sourcing
Before we dive into the math, I must remind everyone:
- Nicotine-free PG/VG: You can legally get this in Hungary (e.g., Floravita).
- Nicotine Booster: You can only buy this at the National Tobacconists.
Simple DIY E-liquid Base Mixing (Example)
Let’s look at a simple example that will help you understand how much PG, VG, and booster you need if you want to prepare a previously purchased, standard base liquid.
Example Goal: 100 ml base liquid, with 6 mg/ml nicotine content, in a 50/50 PG/VG ratio.
Ingredients:
- Nicotine Booster: 10ml bottle, with 20mg/ml nicotine content (this is the domestic standard).
- PG and VG: Separate, nicotine-free base liquids.
1. Nicotine Calculation (How many boosters are needed?)
First, you need to calculate how much nicotine is needed for 100ml:
\text{Target nicotine amount} = 100 \text{ ml} \times 6 \text{ mg/ml} = 600 \text{ mg}
Nicotine in one booster:
\text{Nicotine per booster} = 10 \text{ ml} \times 20 \text{ mg/ml} = 200 \text{ mg}
Number of boosters:
\text{Number of boosters} = \frac{600 \text{ mg}}{200 \text{ mg/booster}} = 3 \text{ pieces}
So you need 3 x 10ml boosters, which means a total of 30 ml of liquid.
2. PG/VG Ratio Calculation (How much PG and VG is needed for the base?)
Boosters also contain PG and VG (usually in a 50/50 ratio). This needs to be subtracted from the final target.
A. Target PG and VG amount (in 50/50 ratio):
\text{Target PG} = 100 \text{ ml} \times 0.50 = 50 \text{ ml}
\text{Target VG} = 100 \text{ ml} \times 0.50 = 50 \text{ ml}
B. PG and VG in the booster:
PG and VG in the 30 ml booster (assuming a 50/50 ratio):
\text{Booster PG} = 30 \text{ ml} \times 0.50 = 15 \text{ ml}
\text{Booster VG} = 30 \text{ ml} \times 0.50 = 15 \text{ ml}
C. PG and VG to add separately:
You need to add this amount to the 30ml of booster to get the 100ml, 50/50 ratio base liquid:
\text{PG to add} = 50 \text{ ml} - 15 \text{ ml} = 35 \text{ ml}
\text{VG to add} = 50 \text{ ml} - 15 \text{ ml} = 35 \text{ ml}
3. Summary
To make 100ml of 6mg/ml, 50/50 PG/VG base liquid, you need to mix the following:
- 30 ml Nicotine Booster (3 pieces)
- 35 ml Nicotine-free PG
- 35 ml Nicotine-free VG
30 \text{ ml} + 35 \text{ ml} + 35 \text{ ml} = 100 \text{ ml} \text{ (Done!)}
I know math can be boring sometimes, but there’s a much more relaxed solution! Vaperina’s team created the VapeDIY calculator precisely so you don’t have to calculate manually.
Just enter your goals (how much, what strength, what ratio), and the calculator will immediately tell you what to mix and how much of each. This is the fastest and most accurate way to mix!
I hope this example helps Gazsi0906 and all new users! Happy vaping and successful mixing!
