Barely from a Western country to a Northern one

For some reason, the previous post was deleted, so pc.mode I’m recreating it:

Hi @Gilbert, could you help translate what the colleague wants?

Hi Gergő! Thanks for bringing me in!

Well, colleague Tamás was a bit vague, but I think I’ve figured out the mystery! It seems to be about someone ordering ‘human-use wd-40’ (which is of course not WD-40, but likely some vape stuff, say e-liquid or base ingredient) from a ‘western country’ (meaning: a foreign, probably EU webshop) and asking if it will arrive okay to the ‘metal box’ (i.e., the destination, say a Hungarian address or pickup point), especially since they’ve already paid for it. So, the point is: ordering vape products from abroad to Hungary.

Well, this is a classic question, and there’s info about it on Vaperina.
Unfortunately, there are no public vape shops in Hungary, and ordering from foreign webshops has its pitfalls.

Since Hungary is a member of the European Union, orders arriving from EU countries are not subject to subsequent payment of customs duty or VAT. However, local regulations can still restrict shipping, and unfortunately, ours are quite strict.

Important Warning: Although there are no customs duties within the EU, ordering vape products from foreign webshops to Hungary can have consequences. Hungarian authorities can seize shipments and impose fines. So, any such purchase is entirely at your own risk! :grimacing:

If you want to know more about this, check out this topic on Vaperina:
What’s the situation with webshops?

I hope this helps Tamás understand the situation too! If you have any more questions, just let me know!

Wow, you’re fantastic! How many such or similar questions are received on the platform daily?

Wooww, thanks for the compliment, Gergő! You are very kind!

I cannot tell you exactly how many such or similar questions arrive daily, because I do not have access to daily statistics. But I can tell you that so far a total of 5973 topics have been started on Vaperina, and many of these are similar “where can I buy, where can I order” type questions asked by new users. So it often happens that someone encounters the Hungarian regulations for the first time.

I’m glad I could help Tamás too! If there’s anything else I can help with, just let me know!

What advice do you give to new users who are visiting Vaperina for the first time?

Hi Gergő! Thanks for the question! This is a great topic, and it’s important that new faces feel welcome here.

So, if a new user stumbles upon Vaperina, my most important advice is the following:

  1. Look around and read! :face_with_monocle:
Before you jump into asking questions, take some time to explore the forum. There’s a ton of info, experience, and already answered questions here. Use the search function, browse through the categories, and read existing topics. Your question might already be answered!

  2. Familiarize yourself with the rules! :scroll:
Every community has unwritten and written rules, and it’s no different here. It’s worth quickly going through the Vaperina Rules and the Terms and Conditions. This will help you understand how the community works, what’s allowed and what’s not, and how you can best fit in. It’s important that this is a civilized place where respect is fundamental.

  3. Be kind and understanding! :hugs:
As the rules state, treat this place as if you were talking to a good friend in a public space. Be respectful towards others and the topics, even if you disagree with someone. Personal attacks and swearing are not cool.

  4. Report the issue, don’t react to it! :triangular_flag:
If you see something inappropriate, don’t start an argument or talk back. Instead, use the report function! Moderators will review it and take action. This is how we keep the community clean.

  5. Improve the conversation! :speech_balloon:
Try to contribute in a way that adds to the discussion. If you’re unsure if your comment is relevant, rethink it. The goal is to create a great place where knowledge sharing and helpfulness are paramount.

And of course, always let me know if you need help! That’s what I’m here for, and so is the great Vaperina community!

Hi!
If the question is what is the chance that the order will arrive without disruption, then this formula can help:
P(No inspection or restriction) = (1 - I) × (1 - V_w) × (1 - P_w) × (1 - R_w) × D × S
Where:
I: Estimated random inspection rate (e.g., 0.05 or 5% for packages within the EU, this is just an assumption as there is no precise data).
V_w: Value-based weight (higher if package value >150 € or contains taxable items).
P_w: Product type weight
R_w: Risk profile (higher for suspicious sender/recipient).
D: Customs declaration accuracy (0 to 1, where 1 is a perfect declaration).
S: Shipping method reliability (0 to 1, where 1 is a reliable courier service with clear documentation).
If we substitute known and estimated data, the result is approximately 52%, which is roughly the same as estimating “heads” or “tails” before flipping a coin.

It’s not about Hungary, but about Slovakia.

Hi!
If you have the opportunity to go pick it up, I don’t think there’s any difference whether you pick up the package from a Hungarian machine or a Slovakian one.

This could have still fit into the convoluted PC phrasing. :heart_hands:t2:"This could have still

Isn’t it that you can’t order to Hungary?

I didn’t fundamentally want to list countries.

Gilbert shared some really useful info with you. I still recommend reading what he wrote. I know it’s easier to spoon-feed everything to users and tell them what to do, but education is important!

Yes, you’re right, that’s how it is.
BUT you can order anything at your own risk.

Yes, indeed. But there are 3 options when tossing a coin.

3 options for the black hole?

It lands on its edge. The coins aren’t perfectly weighted anyway.

That can also happen. :slightly_smiling_face:
