Variety is key, so this time I’ve brought an RDA from HealthCabin. It’s a product from Hellvape, called the Dead Rabbit Pro RDA. I can’t even remember the last time I used an RDA, which is why I was especially pleased to receive this product. With three different airflow options, you can create a unique experience with this RDA. The bottom airflow draws air to the coil from below, while the side airflow directly cools the outer side of the coil. There are three airflow options because you can use either the bottom, the side, or both. It depends on the coil build which option will work best for you. If that wasn’t cool enough, the interchangeable, differently colored airflow ring and drip tip add an extra touch. With dimensions of 24 x 31mm, the DR Pro is quite light at 32 grams, though this isn’t significant as an RDA doesn’t really make a mod top-heavy.
It’s available in 7 color combinations: SS, blue, gold, matte black, gunmetal, rainbow, and red. The manufacturer includes a differently colored airflow ring and drip tip with these, which I personally find quite cool, and most importantly, not boring at all! I received the red one. Now let’s take a closer look at the little one.
Hellvape Dead Rabbit Pro RDA Review
Box Contents and Getting Acquainted with the RDA
Compared to most RDAs, the DR Pro’s box is quite well-equipped. Inside, we find the usual spare gaskets, 4 spare screws, a BF (bottom feeder) pin, a coil jig, an alternate colored side airflow ring with a matching 810 drip tip, and for the first build, 2 strips of shoelace cotton and 2 pre-wrapped 0.37 Ohm Ni80 Clapton coils are also included.
Right next to the RDA in the box is the silver side airflow ring and the matching transparent drip tip. This makes the DR Pro quite special and eye-catching. However, with the color variations, it might not look good on every mod. The good news is that colored airflow rings and drip tips can also be purchased separately from the HealthCabin website. These are available in 5 colors: magenta, light purple, bluish-violet, red, and silver.
Its construction isn’t like typical RDAs because the airflow rings are interchangeable, making it somewhat different from other RDAs where the airflow is usually integrated with the cap, meaning only that one needs to be removed. In contrast, the DR Pro’s construction is as follows: from top to bottom, we first encounter the 810 drip tip, then the side airflow ring, then the bottom airflow ring, and only after that comes the cap, or barrel. Finally, we see the deck.
When installing the deck, care must be taken to ensure the bottom airflow always points towards the coils. Fortunately, Hellvape designed the cap and deck to fit together precisely. The rim below the side airflow in the cap sits on the corresponding rim on the deck, so we only need to adjust the rings for airflow.
It comes with a solid pin by default, but the package includes a BF pin that can be replaced from the bottom in the usual way, making the Dead Rabbit Pro RDA a perfect choice for squonk mods. I tried squonking with a balanced liquid, and the liquid reaches the cotton quite quickly, suggesting that even high VG liquids can be pumped up without issues due to the wide opening.
RDAs and RTAs with postless decks are the easiest to build on, so naturally, the DR Pro’s deck isn’t overly complicated. We secure the coil legs with the grub screws located on either side of the bottom airflow, after cutting them to length with the included coil jig. The manufacturer’s recommended leg length is 5mm here, which is also marked on the coil jig. The 5mm leg is exactly the right length for the coils to receive proper airflow, so it’s not worth deviating from this. Since this is a decidedly airy RDA designed exclusively for dual coils, I didn’t even try a single coil build. Instead, I immediately wrapped 4 turns of standard Clapton wire around a 3mm inner diameter mandrel, twice. I only used 4 turns because a single-battery squonk mod is located below it (which will also be reviewed later), and even then, the dual coils only performed at 50 Watts. To avoid draining the battery excessively, I tried to find the most power-efficient build. However, because the deck and wicking channels are quite wide, a 2.5mm inner diameter build isn’t really a viable option here.
I used 3mm inner diameter Cotton Cloud’s cotton [1], which performed perfectly during use. Since it’s an RDA, you don’t need to be stingy with the cotton. Its length extended well beyond the 24mm deck, but that’s necessary because the channel itself is quite deep, and it needs to be completely filled to prevent leaking when the RDA is turned sideways. This is more important for squonk users, as it’s unpleasant if liquid starts leaking in your pocket. Of course, when squonking, you also need to be careful not to over-pump liquid onto the cotton, and then it definitely won’t leak anywhere.
Here we can see the cotton adjusted into the channels. It looks like a lot at first glance, but the RDA itself and the space inside are quite large, so using plenty of cotton is almost mandatory. In RDAs, the cotton can almost invariably collapse from saturation because it doesn’t receive liquid gradually, as is typical for RTAs, so using slightly denser cotton might be advisable. However, I was personally pleasantly surprised by Cotton Cloud’s, as it lasted quite a long time before collapsing.
RDAs are the simplest devices in the vape world, which is why this review is so short. I’d still like to say a few words about usability and the overall experience.
Experience ReportThe RDA’s construction seemed a bit strange or unusual at first, after which I regretted that the RDAs I had used before did not have such a design. The bottom and side air intakes distribute the air very widely, so it’s best if both are open, even if just a little, as this cools the coils best. They also gunk up less, thanks to the design, and because of this, the air also reaches the inner sides of the coils somewhat, so the coils last much longer in the DR Pro. The screws hold the coils firmly, making subsequent adjustments easy. The drip tip is extremely comfortable due to its sufficiently rounded shape. The o-rings don’t grip too tightly; even when dry, we can easily pull the deck off, which I don’t see as a disadvantage. Some RDAs failed for me precisely because the o-ring held the cap so tightly that removing it was a hassle. There’s no such problem here; moreover, despite the slightly loose o-rings, they didn’t spin on their own even in a pocket. Of course, this is only true as long as we can ensure that no liquid or vapor gets under the airflow rings, because after that, they unfortunately can develop a life of their own, but to their credit, everything can be removed from the deck and wiped down in 1 minute. Since the cotton lasts quite a long time, it’s more than enough to spend that 1 minute once a week for a cotton change, as Cotton Cloud’s lasted a full week without leaking. It’s not an annoying phenomenon at all, it’s easily remedied, and the DR Pro will be grateful for it!
As for the flavor and vapor experience, it’s absolutely outstanding! After all, it’s an RDA, it couldn’t be any other way. I was able to get the coils, which totaled 0.2 Ohm as they were dual, to perform at 50 Watts. They could have handled another 5-10 Watts, but since I powered them with a single 18650 battery, it’s not ideal for the battery for extended periods. All the airflow rings were open a quarter of the way, which was sufficient for the dual coil I built, but I think more could have been extracted from it. The ample airflow suggests that the DR Pro would have required more than my 4 wraps to utilize the airflow better, which, however, could only be served by a minimum 21700 battery. It’s no wonder most single-battery squonks are 21700. I didn’t even try single coil builds; the RDA is too large for that. It definitely needs dual coils, at least 6 wraps on a 3mm inner diameter, paired with a squonk mod equipped with a 21700 battery for the ultimate experience.
In conclusion, I can only say that the Hellvape Dead Rabbit Pro is a brilliant little RDA! It has almost no flaws, except perhaps that the rings spin a bit too easily, and if liquid gets under them, they will spin in your pocket, but this can be fixed in 1 minute, which is not a reason not to want this exceptionally good-tasting, abundant vapor-producing RDA! Building and wicking it is incredibly simple, so I can confidently recommend it to beginners, especially as it’s the best choice for squonking!
The review was conducted with a Vandy Vape Pulse 3 squonk mod, which I highly recommend alongside the Dead Rabbit Pro.

I just took the BP Mods cotton out of the box, so it accidentally ended up in the picture ↩︎
