Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA J Edition Review

Another product arrived from Sourcemore, the Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA J Edition! It doesn’t differ much from its predecessors, but the most striking features are the mirror-polished exterior and the Joker logo on the inner chamber, from which the J Edition name originates. The 810 Ag+ drip tip is special because bacteria don’t multiply on it, which is a definite plus. The DR 3 J also features honeycomb airflow, characterized by soft flavors and smooth airflow. We’re talking about a dual coil RTA, so it’s not small with its 27mm diameter, which is 25mm excluding the ridges. Its height, including the drip tip, is 45.7mm.

As for the color combinations, the manufacturer didn’t stray (too far). They released it in only three variants: shiny gold-black, shiny SS-blue, and shiny gunmetal-purple. They all look good, though I like the SS-blue the best among them, which I also indicated to Sourcemore. They acknowledged it and promised to send the SS-blue I chose, but due to a mishap, the gold-black ended up with me. I must note that they’ve never sent the wrong color before, only in this instance. But there’s a reason for this: the gold-black box accidentally got an SS-blue sticker, hence the mix-up. Let’s move on and take a closer look at the DR 3 J!

Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA J Edition Review

Box Contents and Getting Acquainted with the Tank

The accessories are pretty standard. First, you’ll find the tank and the bubble glass, then underneath the product, you’ll find 2x 0.37 Ohm Ni80 Claptons, 2 strips of shoelace cotton, spare gaskets, and 4 spare grub screws. Since the tank has regular screws, we also get 2 types of screwdrivers for them. The coil jig is an indispensable accessory for Hellvape DL RTAs, so naturally, you’ll find one in the box, right next to the user manual.

With the regular glass, we get a 3.5ml capacity, which can be increased to 5.5ml with the bubble glass. It’s worth noting that the bubble glass significantly exceeds the maximum 27mm diameter, so anyone who wants to use it with the bubble glass will need a mod that can accommodate tanks of at least 30mm to prevent the glass from breaking if it tips over.

The construction of the DR 3 J also doesn’t differ from its predecessors. Moving from top to bottom, the RTA consists of the drip tip, top cap, airflow ring, 3 in 1 Chamber, glass, and build deck. There will be an interesting point here that I’ll complain about shortly…

The build deck follows the usual postless style. Thanks to the top airflow, the design is leak-free, aided by the narrower wick slot. This means the cotton spreads out nicely after adjustment, filling every space and leaving no chance for liquid to wick up.

They provided a relatively large space for building, but to ensure good airflow through the coil, I wrapped a 4-wrap Clapton on a 2.5mm inner diameter. I wicked it accordingly with BP Mods cotton, which was just enough for the slot. Of course, I brought the cotton all the way down to the bottom of the deck, partly because I like to empty my tanks completely, and partly to prevent liquid from wicking up accidentally. Building and wicking are simple, but you’ll need the coil jig included in the box for the coil legs, which is best cut to 5mm (and this is the manufacturer’s recommendation).

It didn’t seem complicated at all, nor did it prove to be complicated in terms of construction, usability, or building. You can read my more detailed opinion right away!

Review

There isn’t much to write about a tank, but I’ll try. The threads are perfectly fine; you don’t need too much force to disassemble it, but it’s not loose either – it’s just right. The O-rings seal well, the top cap is sufficiently tight, and the airflow ring doesn’t spin on its own. Neither leaking nor condensation is characteristic of the DR 3 J, which is as it should be given its design, so it would be a miracle if it leaked. The paint is very shiny, but at least it’s durable. The top cap has a bayonet lock, which allows for quick refilling and doesn’t unscrew easily; it’s super tight. Returning to the paint briefly, the 3 in 1 Chamber is black, completely black. This leads to the RTA’s only drawback, which might be specific to this color combination. When I want to adjust the airflow, I can’t see how much I’m adjusting it because, as I mentioned, the 3 in 1 Chamber is completely black, including the air holes, so I can’t see where the holes are positioned while adjusting. However, this can be remedied by taking a puff, and I’ll know if it’s right or not, but it’s a bit annoying that I can’t see how much I’m adjusting it. But at least once it’s set, it stays that way, because, like the top cap, the airflow ring is also super tight.

Building it is incredibly simple; you just need to pay attention to the leg length. If you leave them longer than 5mm, there’s a risk they’ll touch the chamber wall, so it’s best to stick to the manufacturer’s recommendation! The clamping is quite strong; it holds any thick Clapton well. Wicking is almost effortless; it’s so easy to place the cotton ends in the slot. I considered it important to bring the cotton ends down to the bottom of the deck because this way, the liquid won’t push back, and it allows for a clean emptying, which is useful when changing flavors. Since the wick slot is a bit narrow, I wrapped the coils on a 2.5mm inner diameter, but I believe a single coil wrapped on a 3.5mm inner diameter would also work well in the DR 3 J, you just need to be careful to spread the cotton well so it fills the slot completely. Even with the least amount of air, it has a strong DL feeling, meaning it can handle DL wires and coils with a wide range of airflow. So, only your imagination and availability will set the limit for creating a truly beastly DL setup!

In terms of flavor, it performs well, of course, but with dual coils, it struggles below 40 Watts, so it requires a dual-battery mod. It produces vapor abundantly, as it should, without any issues. I installed a pair of simple Clapton coils, which only operated normally at 42 Watts, so while it’s coil-dependent, it will demand more power the more complex the coil is. Due to the wattage requirement, the tank heats up a bit during use, but the drip tip does not at all. I might add, the drip tip is very comfortable.

In conclusion, I have no real complaints about the Hellvape Dead Rabbit 3 RTA J Edition! Of course, it’s a bit annoying that you can’t properly see the airflow adjustment, but I quickly got over that. Besides this mishap, I had a very satisfying DL experience, which we’ve probably come to expect from Hellvape. It will surely become a favorite for DL enthusiasts!

Thank you for reading! Have a nice day! :hugs:

DL fans or not, as an MTL user too, it’s the usual good writing:hugs:thanks, @Vaperina_Kinga
I liked the Ag thing the most, as a railway-elemental (anti-bacterial) object:+1:

(At least there’s something valuable on the tank too :roll_eyes::wink:)
