I am a vaper, not a criminal!

Hi everyone!

This writing of mine will be a bit unconventional. Why do we feel the need for this now? Because tomorrow, April 12th, we will be presented with an election again! We can vote about our own future and that of our children, and last but not least, we can even change the perception of e-cigarettes and us as users!

Although we generally do not allow the publication of political content on Vaperina, we must now deal a bit with a segment of politics that affects us, because the stakes are high!

I see in many places, unfortunately sometimes here on Vaperina too, how deep the fear can sink. We are afraid of fines, we are afraid of the NAV (National Tax and Customs Administration), we are afraid of misunderstandings, we are afraid of disapproving glances, and I could go on… Fear generally causes frustration, which in the worst case leads to debate! Our country has become a frustrated and overheated political battlefield! The problem is that they are doing this to us consciously! This frustration and lynching atmosphere is why we generally do not allow political content to be displayed. This complex emotional and psychological process practiced by the government also has a name. It’s called:

Identity Politics

As times change, so do people’s perception, sensitivity, and tolerance levels. Today’s modern politics is no longer about professionalism in the political sense, but about identity politics! This is an extremely slippery slope, because as we see, hear, and unfortunately sometimes experience, it can incite conflict between Hungarians and Hungarians, or vapers and vapers.

We are no exception. E-cigarettes have long ceased to be just a device; they are a lifestyle, a community, and for many, the only method by which they could quit smoking. Yet, they treat us like criminals. In recent years, public discourse has successfully painted the vaper identity as something to be ashamed of, while people queuing at the tobacconists don’t bother anyone. This is no accident. If a group receives sufficiently negative public perception, then restrictive measures against them will not generate social protest. In fact, they might even be popular.

And meanwhile, we sit here, afraid of a package they’ve handed us. This identity politics in practice is not an abstract concept, but a daily reality.

Let it be enough! Now we have a chance to truly make our voices heard!

What might await us after a potential system change

Have you heard about everything that has happened to vapers by the government from 2012 until now? I’ve already written about it in this article: A nagy magyar e-cigi helyzet 2012-től napjainkig

I would only highlight that since 2016, the distance selling of electronic cigarettes and their accessories has been illegal, which means we shouldn’t have been panicking now, because it was already forbidden, we just didn’t acknowledge it, or didn’t feel the limits because the SZTFH (National Media and Infocommunications Authority) and NAV simply had to get into the swing of things. The government entrusted these bodies with a market they had no idea what it consisted of or how big it was. That’s why it took them 4 years to gain experience, which is why the tension and fear among us have been greatest in the last 1.5-2 years. The reason the government cracked down on the e-cigarette market was not necessarily triggered by disposable e-cigarettes.

Sales in tobacconists have naturally decreased as more and more people switched to e-cigarettes. The government and the tobacconist racket missed these revenues. Generally, people with government-adjacent status received concessions, often for 20 years. These people only had to whistle for the government to take action so that they wouldn’t become impoverished. When they didn’t know what to do, suddenly ElfBar and its counterparts exploded onto the scene, and the government saw the solution. If you can’t order from abroad, you go to the tobacconist and spend your money there. If you order from abroad and get caught, you spend your money on fines. Either way, we enrich the tobacconist racket and the state with both extremes. In addition to the disposable products, which were already on the prohibited list, all e-cigarettes, flavors, and base liquids have been added since 2016 – even if the base liquid is nicotine-free, as was seen recently in Germany, where even nicotine-free base liquids were taxed separately.

Could a system change also offer a solution to our problem?

Since the tobacconist racket is a cornerstone of governmental corruption, if a system change were to occur, the next government would most likely dismantle its monopoly. As they believe that everything that unreasonably restricts free trade must be reviewed, there may be an opportunity for market competition again in Hungary, which would mean that e-cigarette items could be ordered again! According to speculation, digital age verification would be used to prevent orders from individuals under 18.

I could summarize the essence of my writing in one sentence:

Our lives, our future, and our beloved hobby are not a toy!

(This is a rational piece of writing! Vaperina will continue to take no stance on any political party.)

Kinga, all you had to see was from what funding the chosen power managed to win, and we’ll immediately know what to expect regarding vape topics (as well). I envy your meager optimism.

For 4-5 years, my vape exposure would be at most acquiring VG… Because of this, I shouldn’t even really care about it, but due to other aspects, it strongly affects me… just like it will everyone.

I didn’t intend it as a debate starter, I just reacted to the topic since it was already posted. PEACE

Are you thinking of the System Change Card, or support sent by private individuals? I heard that “only” 3 billion forints were collected for Tisza. All of this was collected from the sales of the System Change Card and from money sent by supporters.

Is my optimism low? Look, education is in ruins, healthcare is in ruins, waiting lists are endless…

The latter is personal experience due to my sick father and my uncle with cancer…

In my opinion, this country has long needed a system change.

And do you know what’s sad? That those 2,250,000 Fidesz voters swallowed the propaganda and lies so much that families were torn apart! And the Fidesz supporters are still scared, because as I wrote, they believed everything, and as I see it, you are among them…

Please talk to Hungarian people and don’t get your information from the bubble created by the online world. It’s blatantly obvious you have no idea what’s been going on here lately.

And speaking of support, I’ve personally sacrificed around 200-250 thousand forints on this “bash”, plus a lot of free time, to make things better for the future generation.

I have NEVER been a “Fidesz supporter” and precisely I’m the one who “didn’t fall for anything”. Gergő, the point is that I look at things “from the outside”…. I agree that change was needed.

Give yourself time to see what will happen in the future. Do not judge in advance and do not bury the country’s future.

Regardless of any political stance, in response to the writing…

I am a vaper, not a criminal.

I’ve certainly experienced many times that with a vape in my hand on the street, people looked at me disapprovingly, as if I were some alien. Someone passing by once waved away the vapor as if it were toxic gas. At that point, I couldn’t help but say something, this is mostly just vegetable glycerin…

This is an extreme case, but unfortunately, I often see the grimaces and frowns. In my opinion, this is because people are not sufficiently informed about this topic, they are misled, and not open enough to learning about it.

So I understand where the judgment comes from, but it still hurts.

Many times I’ve been in situations where I preferred not to take it out, or only a little, using it in MTL mode.

And believe me, I never intended to bother anyone with it on purpose.

Regardless of the government, I trust that over time our understanding, our perception, and our freedom will change.

At least here on Vaperina, I don’t feel that; we accept each other with this hobby. :vaperina:

Okay, and I hope that at the first warning signs, you will change again with at least this much determination… ‘because the stakes are high’.

I didn’t say you sucked up, I said you’re scared… Because it shows. But I’m letting it go. I can’t do more than this and I don’t want to deal with this right now.
You won’t grasp the main point anyway, you only look at how it will be better for you or, God forbid, worse. Please look around! I know it’s hard from the USA, but try it..

The current opportunity proves that we have applied the brakes and a self-advocacy skill can develop in people, which present and future generations can benefit from.

I’m currently trying to process why this didn’t happen for ten years, with so much garbage, last place in the EU, ruined health and living standards… I think people were scared enough, they suffered enough, but I also think that if something goes wrong, they won’t take to the streets again in another ten years.

And it also turned out how easily intimidated, influenced, and also incredibly patient, or rather living in denial, we are as a nation. I really hope this has also changed, for the better.

I tried to explain to my relatives and colleagues, after all, what this type of e-cig I vape is, and why it’s much healthier. Those who wanted to understand, understood :slightly_smiling_face: In summary, I think in half a year it will start to take shape what changes there are/will be. Until then, I won’t say anything.

I didn’t achieve much, but I was also afraid of even that little bit…

I also think that by October 23rd it will become clear whether “the king is naked”…

I spend half the year here and the other half on another continent… what can’t you find, what isn’t provided at home?

The king is naked, and this is not just childish honesty, because the votes of nearly 1 million young people appeared in the elections, causing great surprise… They don’t want to be dual citizens; they want to thrive in their homeland, close to their families… And let everyone decide whether the tailor was a swindler, or the king cannot see reality…

My heart is torn back and forth… it’s nothing else, my 79-year-old mother is waiting at home. So I’m not flying around out of a desire for adventure.

Hi!

I feel the need to clarify my post. I did not intend it as criticism or judgment. I wanted to highlight that many people cannot find success and have no future prospects in their own country. They receive greater recognition in a foreign country, both morally and materially.

Apologies for the unfortunate wording!

Hello everyone! I haven’t been writing much lately, but I’ll leave a little something here on the topic. Considering my profession, I couldn’t engage in politics for 20 years, but I never had a problem with that, as it was declared so, I never even voted. I’ve been around long enough to see what perhaps today’s youth don’t, and please don’t misunderstand, I don’t want to offend anyone. The point of my message is that globalists have never worked to put more in our pockets, but rather to take away even the little we have, like the two mouthfuls I might have left yesterday. Let everyone understand this well. I must add that I also didn’t like the outrageous enrichment of certain individuals… Furthermore, I don’t like that the hatred doesn’t seem to be subsiding after the elections. There would have been a much better alternative for our country, without hatred and globalists… I wish everyone a continued nice day!

Me neither, Attila, but for me, that doesn’t equate to accountability happening in certain circles. It bothers me that a good few have become super-rich in recent years, while I still have to toil until I die to have shelter, food, diesel, some hobby, maybe a few days in Siófok, and then be taken care of if I collapse again… I personally live like this. I’m probably to blame for this too, since it was easily achieved for a few families and their circles. Anyway.

Accountability has become a curse word in the eyes of some. Well, I still say that, while navigating suspicious wealth acquisitions, interesting senseless investments, surrounded by people with sky-high compensation, and I could go on until noon, so it shouldn’t be a problem why, when, how, for what, and then if it’s okay, that’s it. If it’s not okay, then oops.

What do they do to me: if I sin somewhere, park illegally, miss a bill, mess something up in my work, commit any
