Hi everyone! It’s been a good few months since I was here. Hope you are all doing well! It was sad to see shops closing down one by one. I also quit vaping, although this wasn’t the reason. I miss it sometimes, though, but I quit it not permanently, but rather like “I haven’t yet vaped the next (amount instead of a cigarette).” I also signed the petition, hope we reach our goal!

Hello everyone 
In the past few days, we’ve seen many discussions about our petition, our email campaign, and Vaperina’s operations. I believe it’s important to clarify a few things calmly, directly, and transparently.
Yes, we have consciously changed our communication strategy.
In the recent period, we’ve seen many people complaining about the current situation, supply difficulties, and the regulatory environment, yet community activity has remained low despite this. Therefore, we decided to launch a more direct, attention-grabbing email campaign.
Not to ‘shame’ anyone, intimidate them, or harass them.
But rather because we wanted to shake people out of the passivity that has characterized the local vape community for a long time.
And the numbers show that it’s working.
Since the campaign started, the petition’s growth has accelerated manifold; we are currently at over 3700 validated signatures, with 200+ new confirmed signatures daily. This new email campaign has been running since May 20th, when we started with 2714 signatures. Previously, there wasn’t this pace of growth, even when mass shares were running on various platforms.
Of course, everyone has the right to decide whether to support the initiative or not. Signing the petition is not mandatory. However, we believe that if a community wants change, it also requires active participation.
We would like to clarify another misunderstanding.
The petition operates on a double opt-in system. This means that:
- incorrect or unconfirmed email addresses are automatically excluded,
- troll or obviously false signatures are filtered out,
- and only validated signatures remain in the system.
An official initiative cannot be built on fake names, sabotage, or trolling. Our goal is to create an authentic, acceptable, and technically clean signature list. As stated in the petition’s data protection notice.
Naturally, we are aware that there are also winners in the current situation, and not everyone is interested in change. However, we continue to focus not on personal conflicts or behind-the-scenes battles, but on building a stable and responsible vape community that is sustainable in the long term.
Vaperina’s operation continues to be based on the same principles:
- adult, responsible vaping,
- zero tolerance against minors,
- science- and fact-based communication,
- data protection,
- and building a modern, cultured vape community.
We do not want forum wars or personal attacks.
We do not want to fight with other platforms, but rather work towards a community that can represent itself in a cultured, organized, and credible manner.
We thank those who are partners in this for their support.
And for those who would rather build, help, or contribute something to the common cause, the door is open.
We are marching on towards 5000 signatures.

This is a huge milestone for the domestic vape community. More than 5000 of us have united in support of a reasonable and science-based reform of e-cigarette regulation!

Over 5700 Hungarian E-cigarette Users Demand European-Style Regulation to Curb Thriving Black Market
Székesfehérvár, July 2, 2026.
After decades, they finally decide to quit smoking cigarettes. They research, inform themselves, and conclude that e-cigarettes might be the most straightforward transitional solution. Then they face reality: in Hungary, regulation makes this extremely difficult in practice. They stick to cigarettes – or the illegal market.
This is not an isolated case; we encounter such stories in the community daily. This is a daily consequence of the current Hungarian regulation.
Over 5700 verified signatures have been collected by an independent, civil initiative online petition launched by the Vaperina community platform. The number is constantly growing: according to the organizers, the current Hungarian regulation – which extremely strictly limits legal access to flavored e-cigarettes and other harm reduction nicotine products – has not achieved its intended goals and has contributed to the strengthening of the black market and the emergence of new social and public health risks.
The Biggest Paradox: Prohibition Strengthened the Black Market While Punishing Adults
The petition organizers draw attention to the most serious contradiction of the current system: while the regulation was introduced citing ‘child protection’, in reality, minors have become the most vulnerable, as age verification is practically non-existent on the black market, thus minors can more easily access unverified products – through school channels, unverified online sources. Age verification has completely failed outside the official distribution network.
Concurrently, the regulation makes responsible adult users’ lives impossible and offers no real alternative for adult smokers who wish to switch to a scientifically less harmful alternative. The current offering in National Tobacco Shops is unsuitable for this: a narrow and occasional stock, regular shortages, unqualified staff – and no incentives to steer towards harm reduction.
European Model, Not Prohibition Based on Disinformation
The EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) allows member states considerable leeway. In Europe, Sweden and the Czech Republic in particular implement harm reduction elements in their anti-smoking policies. Outside the EU, the United Kingdom and New Zealand are at the forefront: both countries’ health policies acknowledge the role of e-cigarettes in smoking cessation, and in the UK, cessation support services actively recommend them to smokers.
Hungary, on the other hand, employs one of the strictest regulatory approaches in Europe. The restrictions have been accompanied for years by communication that often fails to make a clear distinction between the risks of smoking and smoke-free nicotine products. In contrast, according to available scientific evidence and the assessment of several leading international health organizations, the use of regulated e-cigarettes carries significantly lower health risks compared to smoking, which is why several countries view them as a tool for harm reduction.
The petition launched by Vaperina urges six specific reforms:
- Regulated adult access – replacing the total ban with a strictly age-verified, EU TPD-compliant system.
- Allowing online sales – for registered vendors, with digital age verification, to curb black market demand.
- Harm reduction in health policy – considering available scientific evidence and acknowledging the role of e-cigarettes in supporting smoking cessation.
- Separating refillable and disposable products – strict action against disposable devices proliferating on the black market should not penalize quality-controlled, EU-standard refillable systems.
- Licensing specialized vape shops – creating a distinct retail category, with qualified staff and genuine cessation support advice.
- Mandatory stakeholder consultation – a legal guarantee for consultation involving consumer and professional representatives before future regulatory changes.
“We are not against rules, but for regulated safety. With the current system, everyone loses: the state misses out on significant tax revenue, adult users are forced into the illegal market, and children gain access to unverified products at school. The solution is a legal but strictly regulated market – not ostrich politics,” stated Donát Dobri, founder of the Vaperina community platform.
The petition is currently running actively. The organizers’ next goal is to reach 10,000 signatures to officially submit the demands to the decision-makers.

Hi everyone. Does anyone know how things are going with our cause? Any developments? Judging by the recently approved tax hike, in my opinion, not much. Not just because the already irrelevant prices of the meager products in tobacco shops will become even more expensive, but because the topic hasn’t even been brought up in the last quarter. I’m not being impatient. Just curious. I read earlier that there is a member here who is/was in contact with a member of the governing party. I wonder if that contact remained after the election?

We will be closing the petition shortly and sending it to the recipients. True, it doesn’t seem like much, but hopefully, it will count for something. For our part, we tried to maximize it and do everything we could to make it successful, and I still maintain that, of course, there could have been more signatures, but considering the current situation in the country, it’s not bad at all—in fact, it’s good!
- We prepared the petition (provided the platform).
- The community shared it in many places, talked about it, and recommended it. (We are grateful
) - Over several months, we sent out a total of nearly 100,000 emails regarding this.
- We reached out to major international vape sites to see if they would provide us with exposure. Among them, a banner ran on Calumette for nearly 2 months.
- We ran Facebook ads.
- We contacted almost all the media outlets.
- We contacted major YouTube content creators.
Unfortunately, factors beyond our control did not go the way we would have liked or the way that would have favored us. With what we did, we reached the limit of our own bubble, and if even a single media outlet or content creator with a larger reach had picked up our press release, we would have been able to break through it, but unfortunately, that is not how it turned out…

Let’s not forget that this was a response to the government (tisza) raising the excise tax on e-liquids, for the “protection of minors.”
Instead of abolishing the excise tax and re-authorizing online shops, they are making the situation even worse. This causes further competitive disadvantage for these significantly less harmful (if harmful at all) products.
Meanwhile, the MHM [Mi Hazánk Mozgalom] talked about how it should be banned because it is significantly more harmful than traditional smoking.
Nonsense…
It would be good if something came of this petition already.

I have watched/listened to every broadcast so far.
I didn’t get upset by Apáti. He was his usual self. I was more just surprised, because before the split of the Jobbik party, their program included a stance in support of e-cigarettes.
The lady from Tisza said that what she claims is not proven. But I had PTSD with her too, because of the phrase “we don’t know enough about it.”
In the last 15 years, thousands of studies have been published on the subject. The only people who don’t know enough about it are those who don’t look into it properly.
Overall, I don’t expect anything good in the future regarding this matter.

I don’t expect anything either, but one thing I see regardless of party affiliation: everyone wants to skim off the profits 
and our Europe is such a “voluntary fool” when it comes to a few things..

Based on the principle of “We keep what is good and abolish what is bad,” since the 2011/64/EU directive, available in the European Union’s official legal database, states that excise duty is currently mandatory only for tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco) and e-cigarettes and e-liquids are not yet included in this law, and furthermore, since the governing party is full of vapers who are aware of where vape products stand on the risk scale, I believe I was rightly hopeful that they would move in the opposite direction.

What pissed me off about that sentence or something “similar” to it is that he actually said, “he doesn’t even know what the difference is (vape, heated tobacco, disposable), but”…
Throughout the whole thing, I had the feeling that we are heading towards the narrative that analog [cigarettes] cause less harm (in their opinion) than vaping. The concept of “harm reduction” is not even known to them. Not just in this, but in drug-related matters as well.
And I was hoping that with the political shift, we would start moving in a more positive direction…
Well, no, for now, the French connection remains.
