The first thing that came to my mind was that the wallpaper is white. For white color, all three pixels are needed (red, blue, green) and after turning on the display, the pixels don’t turn on at the same time, simultaneously. About what Zoli also wrote, the slowness of screen refresh, after all, it’s just a mod display, not a TV. Did you perhaps try it with a theme where the background is a solid color? Plain blue or similar, does it do the same with that?
I don’t think any software will solve this problem, but if someone really wants to tinker, I would suggest the Theme Designer and the Fading part.
I think these are the default values, turn on (fade-in) 1 sec, turn off (fade-out) 2.98 sec, meaning it fades out. It might not help at all, but you can try to set the turn on (fade-in) to 2 sec (or 1.5s), meaning it raises the brightness slower.
Here, you only set how long it takes to enter sleep mode, and which key combination unlocks it for use. Additionally, you set the screen brightness and whether the temperature is displayed in C° or F°.
Hi! I tried. I set the fade-in time to 2.98 s, just like the fade-out time, and I also changed the idle time to 1 s. It still starts with a pixel flash, the only difference is that the screen brightens slower, i.e., in 2.98 seconds. The shop hasn’t replied yet, Suicid Mods support wrote that this phenomenon is not normal, I replied to them, but I haven’t received a response to that yet.
This afternoon, Evolv support also replied, and Jacob is very helpful and trying to assist. Unfortunately, it’s not progressing quickly, and I’m not home right now to try out what he suggested. For now, we are working on uncovering the cause of the problem!
I see that no one else has been bothered by this phenomenon except me. But perhaps there will be a solution soon. Here is Jacob’s letter from Evolv:
“Hi Peter!
Thank you again for your detailed investigation and for testing the device with default settings.
As I mentioned earlier, I was able to reproduce this same behavior on my own test device. We have forwarded the issue to our programmer for review. It appears to be related to how the screen refreshes when the device wakes from standby, especially when using graphically intensive themes. The brief pixelation is likely due to the backlight turning on too early or the screen initializing.
What you can do now:
If you wish to minimize the effect, switching to a simpler theme, such as the original Bogan Skull theme, may help.
Otherwise, you can safely continue using your current setup – the device remains fully functional.
We are continuing to investigate this issue, and if a firmware-level or theme-level fix becomes available, I will let you know. I cannot provide a specific timeline or guarantee a fix, but rest assured that the behavior has been noted and is under review.
Thank you again for your patience and help with the documentation.
