Geekvape Aegis Legend 5 Kit Review

Finally, I have something exciting to share, thanks to Sourcemore! Here is the latest Geekvape gadget that has reached me, the Aegis Legend 5 Kit! No matter how I count, the number four seems to have been skipped in the series… Although Legend 5 sounds good, I think it would have been better if they had kept the order. But anyway, because it’s ready, available, and I already have the fifth Legend here, equipped with the AS Chip 4.0, which can react to pressing the fire button in 0.01 seconds (i.e., instantly), its output voltage is always stable, thanks to which it also features good flavors. It can deliver a maximum of 200 Watts, but most of its atomizers operate well below 100 Watts, so this only refers to the chip’s capability. There’s already one oddity, or maybe I’m just too old in the business, but this device only handles resistance up to 2 Ohms instead of the good old 3 Ohms. The lowest Ohm value it handles is 0.1. Tri-Proof is of course also characteristic of the fifth Legend, but the manufacturer has now been a bit more generous with information regarding this. It received an IP68 rating for its water resistance, but it is only waterproof for 30 minutes and only up to a depth of 1.5 meters. It is shock-resistant, but it will only be fine if dropped from 1.4 meters, and it can withstand this without damage only up to 25 times. It received an IP6X rating for dust resistance, but it can only withstand the elements in a desert sandstorm for 120 minutes, after which it will fill with sand and dust, so don’t take it with you to Egypt. It’s also interesting that next to the shock resistance and dust resistance, it was stated that these apply to the entire surface of the mod. This suggests that the fifth Legend doesn’t tolerate water as well as its predecessors. This might be slightly bad news, or perhaps not significant, because regardless, everyone tries to take care of their device. What is surprising, however, is that it vibrates! Whether we want it to or not!

It is available in two types of designs: one is the Racing Edition design, embodied by the Turbo Red (red-black) and Racing Gold (gold-black) finishes. The other colors represent the Regular Edition, which are Aurora Rainbow (rainbow-black), Earth Brown (brown), Carbon Black (black), Frost Silver (silver), Twilight Blue (blue), and Glacier Green (green). The Turbo Red version arrived with me, and its touch is almost pampering! The metal surfaces are so silky to the touch, and the padded back is so soft that it literally pampers the user’s hand! But I’ll rave more about that later; let’s proceed in order, as usual.

Geekvape Aegis Legend 5 Kit Review

Box Contents and Getting Acquainted with the Set

The accessories consist of what can be called standard items. We only get a USB-C cable with the mod. The Z Sub Ohm tank comes with more items, such as a bunch of seals, a spare bubble glass, 2 Z coils (one of which is in the tank), and a U-shaped tool which doesn’t have a precise or official name, so let’s call it a coil removal tool. Of course, besides these, we also get a Warranty Card, an Info Card, and the indispensable user manual.

On the front, there’s the metal fire button, below it the 1.08" TFT display with dynamic side lighting, and below that, the two-way navigation button. The entire front has a carbon-effect foil that unfortunately distorts the display a bit, but it’s not too distracting. However, since this is the latest member of the Aegis series, and the entire series is known to be scratch-resistant, it could have been removed… On the back of the mod, there’s nothing besides the “Legend 5” inscription, but it’s an extremely soft, padded back! I must also mention that the inscription turned out very nicely. I like this new, slightly more futuristic and much softer direction.

On the left side of the mod, there’s nothing besides the A-Lock button. This might be familiar to many, as we could lock all the buttons on the device with this button on the Legend 2. This also means they ditched the Smart Sensor from the Legend 3 and with it the Touch Lock, which in my opinion was the coolest thing in the Aegis series! The right side of the mod doesn’t even have that much, so let’s leave it. The entire mod is surrounded by a metal C-Frame, which feels incredibly good to the touch! I should note that the fire button also has this texture, so it’s extremely comfortable and silky! There’s no better word for it than silky, incredibly good! On both sides, the Geekvape logo is laser-engraved into a metal plate, and the padded section extends exactly to this plate.

According to the manufacturer, the mod’s 510 connector top is Aeroflow textured, which I think is only noticeable in the faint pattern, or rather, its name. It’s a very slight ribbing that even our fingernails don’t catch on, but these almost imperceptible grooves can collect the grease and dirt from our hands excellently. In any case, it looks nice. The usual 510 connector reinforced with 4 screws ensures our safety, meaning the 510 won’t break off due to a fall. The bottom of the device is occupied by the rubberized spring-loaded battery door, which only has the mandatory pictograms.

Besides the battery door, there’s also a rubber surface on the USB-C connector, which is the usual rubber plug that protects the USB port from dust and water. Although I think this opens quite easily, hopefully only on my unit, this is probably why they didn’t state that the water resistance applies to the entire surface of the mod. The Legend 3 is capable of fast charging at 5V/3A; for the Legend 5, there is no official data on how fast it can charge the batteries, but it might be capable of what its predecessor could do, but let’s not forget that it’s generally not recommended to charge batteries in the mod!

The Z Sub Ohm tank is included in the set, the parts of which are almost well-known to everyone. First, from left to right, is the deck, the Z0.15 XM Coil that comes pre-installed in the tank (which is incidentally in the wrong place in the picture), the 5.5ml glass, the 3-in-1 Chamber with the airflow adjustment ring (which I forgot to remove and only just noticed), the bayonet-lock top cap, and the drip tip. The tank itself feels like the fire button and the C-Frame, so it’s great to touch. Its airflow has a slight resistance, so for me, it’s more of a fairly generous RDL. Regardless, it can of course also be used for DL, and in my opinion, it will be perfect in terms of experience.

The atomizer in the picture above is in the wrong place because we don’t insert it into the deck, but into the 3 in 1 Chamber. It must be removed strictly with the factory-supplied U-shaped atomizer removal tool shown in this picture, because if we try to do it by hand, we will only succeed in detaching the coil’s contact, and the coil itself will remain inside. So, if someone changes their coils frequently, meaning they put in another one during a flavor change and this one goes on the shelf, then they must definitely perform the replacement with this small removal tool! As I already mentioned, it comes with the Z0.15 XM Coil, which is 0.15 Ohm, and in the box, you’ll find the Z0.4 XM Coil, which is, as expected, 0.4 Ohm. The latter also indicates that this can easily be used as an RDL tank. It’s also worth noting that these are VPU coils with ceramic inserts, which (according to the manufacturer) last 70% longer than regular coils. I wouldn’t say 70% with such confidence, but I do think it’s at least 50% more, as we are talking about coils with ceramic inserts, which are known for evenly dispensing liquid and conducting heat uniformly. Therefore, if the Watt is set correctly, the coil and cotton will become gunked up much later.

Menu System

There haven’t been any significant changes to the menu items since the Legend 3. It includes Mode, Puffs, Light, Screen, Battery, and About menu items. Finally, by selecting Exit, we find ourselves back on the home screen. Only the Lock menu item is missing because, unfortunately, there is no longer a Touch Lock.

The first menu item is Mode. Within this, the first mode is Smart, which needs no introduction; it adjusts the Wattage according to the resistance. The second mode is Normal, which spares the battery somewhat better, focusing on flavor while considering resistance. The third mode is Eco, which sets the Wattage to the lowest possible power relative to the resistance. The fourth mode is Custom, which is essentially the Power mode, as you can set the Wattage anywhere without it considering resistance, meaning it’s not limited like the previously mentioned modes. I’ll write more about this limitation later… The fifth mode is TC, where the wire material cannot be set; the mod will detect it. Besides this, it’s a full-fledged TC mode; as a first step, you only need to set the wattage before using it. Fortunately, none of the modes require much attention, so setting up the mod is extremely simple.

The second menu item is Puffs. Here, we can only reset the puff counter.

The third menu item is Light. In this menu item, we can vary the color combinations of the dynamic side lighting around the edges of the display. We can choose from 5 types of light effects with the fantasy names Comet, Fusion, Luna, Nebula, and Nova, or we can even turn off the side lighting.

The fourth menu item is Screen. Here, we can only decrease the brightness, as it is set to maximum by default.

The fifth menu item is Battery. If we turn this on, the smart battery charging in the mod will only charge the battery up to 80% to conserve it.

The sixth menu item is About. Here, we can read the device information or reset it to factory settings.
Geekvape Aegis Legend 5 Kit - About menüpont

The Legend 5 has received a rather interesting innovation that initially made me think about its purpose. At first glance, I didn’t fully grasp it. What you will see is called Multiple Mode, or Multi Mode. The video below perfectly shows how it switches between Smart, Normal, and Eco modes based on which mode’s range the set power falls into. This is good because Smart, Normal, and Eco, in their own ways, conserve battery. The switching is practical because the function of Wattage and resistance determines how it conserves the battery, and it can only do this correctly by limiting the output voltage within certain bounds, which vary by mode. In Eco mode, considering the combination of resistance and Wattage, it keeps the output voltage at the lowest possible Volt. If the output voltage increases because we’ve set the Wattage higher, it switches to Normal, where it maintains the battery at an average voltage. If we venture even higher, it switches to Smart, because although battery protection applies to that mode as well, the main goal of Smart is to adjust Wattage according to resistance. Thus, each mode, in a different way, is primarily geared towards protecting the batteries. This is a pretty good feature, as it prioritizes safe battery usage. But of course, Geekvape also allows for wilder vaping with the Custom mode. The Custom mode is essentially meant to be Power mode, where resistance doesn’t matter, there’s no specialization in battery protection, you simply set the Wattage wherever you want. Custom and TC are the two modes that do not switch during power adjustment. The video also shows how the dynamic side lighting flickers during use.

Well, it doesn’t seem bad for now. It’s had a facelift here and there, it’s become a bit more futuristic, perhaps more interesting than its predecessor, at least in terms of appearance.

User Experience ReportRegarding the exterior of the Legend 5, it has a much silkier effect on the metal parts and is softer and more padded at the grip compared to its predecessors. Its touch is so comfortable and its grip so convenient that it’s incredible! The buttons don’t rattle, they click well, and are also firm. The display is large, and all data is clearly visible. There’s a carbon-patterned yet transparent film on it that distorts the display, but when viewed from a distance, it almost blends into the display, and only the film’s pattern is barely visible. This could be removed, but I think it slightly enhances the dormant, all-black display, and besides, all data is still clearly visible even in natural light. The dynamic side light is not distracting; I’d call it subtly strong and it adds a bit of atmosphere to the now futuristic-looking Legend 5. The curves are very good, making it fit nicely in the hand. It absolutely does not pick up dirt or fingerprints, only perhaps a little on the slightly ribbed surface around the 510. It withstands impacts and knocks well, but it’s disappointing that it can only be dropped 25 times; according to the manufacturer, it tolerates no more than that. Yet, the most important thing would be for it to withstand impacts and drops better than this. Incidentally, due to an accidental knock, it sometimes turned off for me, but this only happened twice and not since, though it’s definitely worth mentioning. It’s also worth mentioning that if the battery door isn’t closed properly, or if the battery doesn’t fit snugly (because it might be slightly smaller), then when I held it, and my little finger touched the spring-loaded lock of the battery door, the lock button itself squeaked. However, as soon as the battery fit snugly, the squeaking stopped. Although this is a tolerable flaw, it bothered me terribly at first. Fortunately, both phenomena have since ceased. Its dust resistance can be considered good, as it is required to meet harsher conditions from the factory in this regard, so I don’t think there will be a problem with this. The water resistance worries me a bit. Although it received an IP68 rating, the manufacturer did not emphasize that the water resistance applies to the entire mod. Knowing this, and due to the easily opened rubber USB plug, I concluded that the Legend 5 is not necessarily 100% waterproof! Perhaps this should be called splash resistance, and then I wouldn’t be dwelling on it so much. When we slide the device lock button, or A-Lock, to lock it, it vibrates twice, informing us that All buttons now locked. At this point, we cannot fire the device, nor can we enter the menu, so this is a full device lock, which is much better than just locking the navigation buttons. When we unlock the device using the A-Lock again, it vibrates once, informing us that All buttons now unlocked. Additionally, it vibrates 5 times if it doesn’t detect resistance or if there’s no tank on it. Moreover, below 20% charge, the vibration becomes more frequent until it runs out of battery. I guess I don’t even need to mention that it handles batteries well, the paint doesn’t want to wear off, and thanks to the spring-loaded 510 connector, even tanks that I can only use with their connector unscrewed on other mods fit perfectly on it, so I mounted one with its connector unscrewed here too.

The menu system is clean, simple, and easy to operate. All modes deliver as expected, perhaps even a bit more. The AS Chip 4.0 can be truly powerful. The Smart and Normal modes are more sensible to use in DL or RDL, while the Eco and Custom modes easily adapt to MTL tanks, especially Eco, as it allows the least possible voltage to the coil, particularly if you manage to coil above 1 Ohm, or if someone uses an atomizer with that resistance, Eco is the best choice to prevent premature burning or gunking. The Multiple Mode, or Multi Mode for short, is an incredibly good solution to get the most out of the battery and flavor, not to mention the mod itself. The mod won’t be overloaded either if we jump between Smart, Normal, and Eco modes. As we see in the video above, the three modes just mentioned have a specific power limit that doesn’t leave much room for maneuver, but since they are coordinated, they take vaping to a new level, focusing on battery saving and flavor. The AS Chip 4.0’s reaction time is exceptionally low, which is a good thing. The manufacturer claims 0.01 seconds, which the device easily achieves and is even perceptible. The dynamic side light also lights up instantly as soon as we press the button; the delay is 0! So, the Legend 5’s menu system, as we’ve come to expect from Geekvape, is perfect! What I find distracting, or at least I had trouble getting used to it and still haven’t fully come to terms with it, is the animation that pops up when the fire button is pressed, which is like the warp effect in the Star Trek series. Incidentally, there’s a small glitch with that animation, because when we want to enter the menu, sometimes, and I mean really not always, the menu items are visible on the second press of the fire button, but only for a moment, and then on the third press of the fire button, we find ourselves in the menu. But I don’t think it always works properly because, as I wrote, sometimes the animation skips a beat, and moreover, it cannot be turned off. Apart from this, everything else works perfectly!

A Z Sub Ohm tank is included in the set as standard, which gives the impression of an RDL tank with ample airflow, as it has a slight perceptible air resistance, unlike a true DL tank where we feel none of this. The 810 drip tip is extremely comfortable, but its internal diameter is slightly narrower than average 810 drip tips. But really just slightly, so it won’t get hot, and from this, I deduce that this tank also performs well in RDL. With its 5.5ml capacity, it lasts quite a long time without refilling. It comes with a Z0.15 XM Coil and a Z0.4 XM Coil in the box. In addition, there is naturally a spare 5.5ml bubble glass. Incidentally, other manufacturers could also adopt this practice of supplying tanks with the largest glass tube as standard. Its threading is perfect, the bayonet lock is only a quarter turn, ensuring quick refilling. There’s not much else to say about this tank, as it’s as simple as can be. One more thing worth knowing is that I haven’t tried the tank! And that’s because my 3mg liquid would be too strong from the Z Sub Ohm tank for me to vape as an MTL user. Just look at the Wattage ranges of the atomizers: the 0.15 Ohm is 80-90 Watts, the 0.2 Ohm is 70-80 Watts, the 0.25 Ohm is 45-57 Watts, and the 0.4 Ohm is 50-60 Watts. It seems quite lung-shredding, but probably only to me. But regardless of this, I know the Z tank and its atomizers, and I can confidently say they are very good! Incidentally, I used the Legend 5 with an Expromizer V5 and it performed perfectly even with an MTL tank!

Now let’s summarize all this information. Here comes the pros and cons list!

Pros :white_check_mark:* Simple menu management, smart Multi Mode. Everything is intuitive, everything is clarified, you don’t have to fiddle with it much, which makes menu management extremely simple. The Multi Mode (a combination of Smart, Normal, and Eco modes) always pays attention to the battery to protect it, so we don’t wear it out accidentally, but at the same time, flavor remains central. Multi Mode takes vaping to a new level!

  • AS Chip 4.0. Not only fast, but powerful too! The manufacturer’s specified reaction time of 0.01 seconds is maintained to such an extent that you can’t even notice it. That is, the side light flashes simultaneously with pressing the fire button, and it’s just starting to heat up!
  • Better material usage, comfortable grip. Rounded edges, an extra-soft back, and silky-smooth metal elements create a truly high-quality feel. It’s simply pleasant to touch, and comfortable to hold.
  • Doesn’t scratch, doesn’t pick up fingerprints. Scratch resistance comes with shock resistance. The paint doesn’t pick up fingerprints or dirt. An exception might be the Aeroflow textured surface around the 510 connector, where grease or dirt from our hands can settle into the slight grooves.
  • Z Sub Ohm tank and Z series atomizers. The included Z Sub Ohm tank in the kit provides the best possible DL and RDL experience with the help of the Z series atomizers!
  • More futuristic design. The exterior of the Legend 5 has been almost completely redesigned, resulting in a modern, futuristic mod. I think it turned out very cool, especially the gradient Racing Edition color scheme.
  • Suitable for MTL, RDL, and DL. Although I didn’t try the stock tank for understandable reasons (but I know it from before), I used the Legend 5 with the MTL representative Expromizer V5, and my personal experience tells me that this mod will be a perfect choice for MTL tanks just as much as for DL or RDL. But of course, the Z Sub Ohm is also worth mentioning, and it’s definitely more cost-effective to buy it as a kit!
  • A-Lock. Inherited from the Legend 2, the A-Lock device lock button, as I mentioned, locks the entire device, so it doesn’t even let you into the menu while it’s slid. I think this is a much better solution than just locking the navigation buttons or allowing access to the menu independently of the fire button lock. So, this is almost as cool as the Smart Sensor was with Touch Lock.

Kontra :negative_squared_cross_mark:

  • Not completely waterproof! It received an IP68 rating, but despite this, the manufacturer did not state that the water resistance applies to the entire surface of the mod. Therefore, I believe the concern that it is probably not completely waterproof is justified, to which the easily openable USB rubber plug only adds fuel to the fire.

I think I liked it! In fact, I liked it a lot! Although Geekvape gave with one hand (A-Lock, disco light on the display side, simple menu system), they took away with the other (Touch Lock, 100% water resistance)! Nevertheless, it is a very cool and lovable device, with the already well-known Z Sub Ohm tank which provides an outstanding experience! The biggest negative is that it is not proven to be 100% waterproof, and the manufacturer didn’t dare to claim it either, so for fans of the Aegis series, this might be a bit of a heartache, but fortunately, not being fully waterproof doesn’t mean it has no water resistance at all, it just means I have to point out that you shouldn’t take it into water, or even into steamy places, because the devil never sleeps! If you can live with that, and why wouldn’t you, then I can wholeheartedly recommend the Geekvape Aegis Legend 5 Kit with the Z Sub Ohm tank! Because Geekvape still delivers an amazing experience!

Thank you for reading! Have a nice day! :hugs:

Thanks, @Vaperina_Kinga, it was a great little description. I do like them, but for a while now the single-battery 21700 9d is more practical, and I also have a Legend 2, which is also popular…. though I don’t usually carry it around. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for the usual detailed description :+1:
Has anyone built/vaped above 2 Ohms in RDL or DL style… definitely not.
I think not even in MTL… among retro atomizers there were rather such ones… e.g. back then for me, for the Dvarw K.
Let’s say @Zolika still has something like that… so the mod is not suitable for that then.

Thanks Kinga! It was a pleasure.

Thank you Kinga for the report!

Could it be that 4 was left out because in China the number 4 is considered an unlucky number?

Yeah, yeah. Yes, there is no fourth floor, door, house number. 1 2 3 3a 5. But if it’s about money, then it exists. Incomprehensible. Háomszász.

Thank you very much, guys! I’m glad you like it! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

@Zsolt68 back then there were 2 and 2.5 Ohm atomizers too. But nowadays there are still wires from which you can easily get above 2 Ohms. :slightly_smiling_face: Although nowadays the world has changed so much that the 2 Ohm limit is enough.

@Lawicska I didn’t even know that, but it’s not impossible that this is the reason.

@Sajt I’m sure of that! :hugs:

I looked into it, you are right! In the Chinese language, the words for four and death are pronounced almost the same. They omit it because they consider it an unlucky number, it’s almost fear-inducing.

Then I guessed correctly that that’s why the 4 was left out.

Thank you! I always follow Geekvape’s gear with curiosity, my first mod (L2), it’s been my loyal companion ever since, and my pod is also from them. Tempting, especially after such a detailed summary. But the old one still works, so it will have to wait…
