Buying my first vape, could you help me out?

Hi everyone! I’m planning to buy my first vape, but the more I read about it, the more lost I get.

After 20 years of smoking, I switched to Glo 5 years ago. I used to smoke a pack a day of regular cigarettes, and my Glo intake was 1.5 packs a day. However, ever since they halved the tobacco content in the Veo sticks, I find myself going through 2–2.5 packs a day. I don’t trust those shady Poco, Elfbar, etc. products, no matter how much people keep recommending them.

According to Dr. AI, I would be better off—especially financially; spending over 130k HUF a month is quite a luxury these days—if I switched to liquid-based e-cigarettes. Based on my consumption habits, it recommended the Vaporesso Luxe Xr Max or the XROS Pro. For the Max, it put a GTX 0.8ohm coil, a Luxe Xr MTL pod (tank), and 18-20mg/ml nicotine strength tobacco or neutral-flavored e-liquid on the shopping list.

If I were to get the XROS Pro, it suggested the corresponding XROS 0.8ohm replacement pods and the aforementioned e-liquid.

It also tried to explain something about nicotine salt (NicSalt), which you can’t even buy here at home, but told me to order it from a webshop that doesn’t even exist anymore. :sweat_smile:

AI is good for many things, but it’s about as reliable as chatting with Aunt Manci next door, so I’d really like someone who actually knows their stuff to help me out and confirm this.

Where can I buy this gear in person in Budapest? A long time ago, every third tobacco shop carried this stuff, but nowadays I don’t see them anywhere. I’m a bit wary of ordering online so I don’t accidentally order things that aren’t compatible with each other.

If I end up having to order online, where should I order from to ensure it’s not a scam and I don’t get a counterfeit product?

Wouldn’t it be better to get a 1ohm or 1.2ohm resistance coil/pod instead of the 0.8ohm GTX?

I’d like my vape to have some flavor—I’ve gotten used to those sweet berry Veos. How should I solve that? I know you can’t buy pre-mixed flavored nicotine e-liquids anymore, but somehow others are still managing it.

Hi. I completely understand your “desperation”. I went through the same thing exactly a year ago (following a similar cigarette-glo-vape path).

What I finally decided on (since switching is hard enough as it is - I didn’t want to mess around with coil building/pod manufacturing on top of it) was the Oxva Xlim device (though Vaporesso isn’t bad either - after watching a couple of video reviews, you’ll be able to decide which device you like). It’s a bit more expensive to use a pod device than if you do the coil building yourself, but it’s not worth worrying about that 3-4 euros/month difference. If you want, you can switch to that later…

So my suggestion for the device: go to Párkány (I’m not sure if you can get such stuff in Pest…). Buy a device (plus liquid - but more on that later…). It will come with two pods (usually 0.6 and 0.8 Ohm). And then the testing begins. For me, the 0.6 worked best for fruit flavors (and the 1.2 for dessert - the main thing: never vape dessert and fruit flavors with the same pod - it will be terrible… :slight_smile: ). Start in ECO mode with the wattage set by the manufacturer. Open the airflow to 2/3. Then, little by little, increase the wattage and adjust the airflow (sometimes it will gurgle or “spit” - this means you still need to adjust things).

One more thing about the pod cartridge: I reset the puff counter every time I change a pod and replace it again at about 15-16 thousand puffs (this is 20/25 days for me). When changing it, it’s important to fill it and let it sit for a few minutes so the cotton can soak up the liquid.

About the liquids: yes, you can find stuff locally, but according to an acquaintance of mine who works in a lab (the people of Vaperina should feel free to refute me if I’m saying nonsense!), it is watered down - and water kills the pod coil.

What I would do/did: I bought a few flavored nic salts in Párkány (10 mg, mainly Elfliq Blue Razz Lemonade worked for me at first, or the Drifter Bar Blue Razz Lemonade Ice longfill). I preferred choosing ones that had a longfill version available for the nic salt. If one worked for me, I bought the longfill version of it (plus the 10 mg, 50/50 PG/VG base liquid), and this way I could indulge my passion at a pretty good price (I come out to an average of 8-10 thousand [HUF] per month, even though I vape a quite expensive Spanish brand - Bombo Supra Reserve).

I’ve thought it over, and I think that for the sake of simpler operation, the Vaporesso XROS Pro 2 or the XLIM Pro 3 would be my entry-level choice. They get good reviews, they’re automatic, and I have plenty of time to get into coiling and getting more deeply involved in the subject later on.

So, if I understand correctly, I can just walk into a tobacco shop in Párkány (Štúrovo) and pretty much get everything? Wow. That simplifies things.

I’m still mulling over this DIY mixing thing and how it works, but if I’m guessing right, I can buy all the gadgets I need for it locally. Awesome. :grin:

If you happen to come across a Vaporesso Luxe XR Max, or Max 2, check it out and get a feel for it too.
My wife uses an XR Max and the device is perfectly fine. There is (still) constant product support available for it (pods, cartridges, etc.).

For now, simplicity is the main priority, followed by an automatic (draw-activated, no button) design. I have plenty of time to look at bigger and more complex devices later, but I’ll keep the Luxe XR Max in mind.

My shopping list (in the meantime, I was pointed towards the eliq shop, where they also have all kinds of bits and pieces) is as follows:

  • 1 pc Vaporesso XROS Pro

  • 4 pcs Vaporesso XROS Corex 3.0 3ml 0.8ohm pod (cartridge)

  • 1 pc Drifter Cherry longfill 16ml

  • 1 pc Drifter Mad Blue longfill 16ml

  • 8 pcs BestLife nicotine salt booster 50/50 10ml/20mg

  • VDLV base liquid 50/50 125ml

Could you confirm if this is okay? I’ve read up on it and checked everything I came across, but a confirmation would be great. :innocent:

I got the gear!

I mixed my first batch and I’m testing out the device. It feels a bit strange compared to the Veo for now, but I feel like I’ll get used to it. The flavor is brutally intense compared to the Veo.

(The eliq shop only sent 4 nic salt e-liquids instead of 8, but we’ll sort that out somehow…)
