First MTL RTA

Hi everyone!

Lately, I’ve been diving deeper into the world of RTAs, and I’d like to jump in myself.
I’ve picked out a tank that seems simple, which would be the Dead Rabbit MTL 2. I’ve read a review here too, I think this one will be fine.

Where I’m stuck, however, is with:

  1. What cotton should I buy?
  2. What wire should I buy?

I’d like to buy generally good items first, and then experiment to see which direction to go with them.

I’d ask for your help with this again, just like with my last purchase. :grinning

Hi!

Good choice and great decision for an RTA

The MTL gurus will come and give advice, I just came to congratulate you on the decision

Also, I would add that don’t buy pre-wound coils, but wire and a coiling tool, so you can further personalize the vape experience.

Happy Vaping

That’s what I meant, I want wire! I’ll correct it in the post too

To start with, Kanthal A1 wire, between 0.28-0.32 mm, a coil jig, and let’s say Cotton Bacon Prime, or BPmods cotton.

Thanks! What other alternatives are there for wire? I’m looking on LH, but this specific type is out of stock, and I’d order all the things from there.

Hi.
Wire…

Cotton: Bp mods 2.5 will be good for a start.

Plain wire for a start, perhaps between 28ga and 26ga. I like 27ga and 26ga thickness, but some people find that too thick and swear by 30ga. I don’t recommend 30ga to start with, it’s thin and difficult to work with.
I also don’t recommend MTL Clapton or MTL Fused Clapton for beginners, if you get into building then you’ll try them out if you’re interested.

Materials:

Ni80
SS316L
A1 (/kanthal)

It doesn’t matter which one you get… To each their own, you have to try them out. I like Ni80, but many people here use A1. I used that to start too, but I didn’t like that it was “sluggish” with larger coils; however, with MTL, this problem doesn’t exist. Furthermore, I think Ni80 is slightly better for my fruity juices… It’s like it brings out the “high” notes better, like citrus, while A1 is better for mid-low flavors (nuts, cookies, tobacco, bean stew) - but this is just my humble opinion, it could also be a placebo effect…
I don’t like SS because its resistance is low, and you can also taste a metallic flavor (which you get used to within a day, to the point where you don’t notice it afterward).

Cotton… It doesn’t matter at all, as long as you know how to cut it to the right size if you buy something like Muji pads.
If you don’t want to bother with cutting and fluffing, then I recommend 2.5mm BP for its good value.
I’m a fan of Muji pads, mostly for “nostalgia” reasons, but out of laziness, I’ve used a lot of BP.

To round out the selection, I like 29ga
It’s still workable, but it’s already quite thin.

The stuff arrived today and everything is working great! I didn’t think wicking and making a coil would be so simple… Although, I only got the coil winding right on the second try, but I was done in 30 minutes including unboxing.

Thanks so much to everyone for the help, again!

Hi! Congratulations!
We’re happy for you  Probably almost everyone goes through these phases. We don’t build.. don’t want the hassle.. let there be an atomizer/tank.. Building is hard and complicated.. Then when we dive into building, the realization comes.. Man, I was scared of this?:face_with_peeking_eye:

Nice Vapors
