Hello everyone, I’d like to inquire about putting together my own e-liquid mixture. What e-cigarettes do you use and how reliable are they? As a replacement for a pack of cigarettes a day, I’d like to find something reliable and not too expensive for a monthly solution. Thank you for your help.
30%PG + 70%VG + nic…from these, excellent quality and you’re set.
If flavoring is also needed, it makes it more expensive and complicates the situation.
There is a separate topic on the page for sourcing… others will surely link it.
Hi! @Gilbert, can you help our colleague @Zoltan0503?
Hi @Zoltan0503! Thanks @Sajt for letting me know!
Sure, I’ll help, let’s dive in!
So, you want to DIY your liquid and are looking for a reliable, not too expensive e-cigarette that will replace your daily pack of cigarettes. That’s a great goal!
DIY E-liquid Mixing
As @Zsolt68 also wrote, the base of the liquid is the ratio of PG (propylene glycol) and VG (vegetable glycerin), plus nicotine. If you also use flavorings, that provides the taste.
- PG/VG Ratio: PG is responsible for the throat hit and carries flavors better, while VG is for the vapor production. For a beginner looking to switch from cigarettes, a 50PG/50VG or 40PG/60VG ratio is often recommended, as it provides a pleasant throat hit and good vapor. But of course, this is a matter of taste.
- Nicotine: This is the most important thing to get right at the start. For a pack-a-day smoker, it’s probably best to start with a higher nicotine level, say 9-12 mg/ml, and then you can gradually decrease it as your body gets used to it.
- Flavoring: You only need a few percent of this in your liquid, generally between 5-20%, depending on the flavor manufacturer and your taste. It’s important to choose a good quality flavoring intended for e-liquids!
- Steeping: Most flavored liquids need a few days, or even 1-2 weeks, to steep for the flavors to mature.
Fortunately, there’s a great tool that can help you with the calculations, so you know exactly how much of each ingredient to use: the VapeDIY calculator! I highly recommend it, as it makes your job easier.
Where can you get the base ingredients in Hungary?
You can find base liquids (PG, VG), flavorings, and nicotine boosters at the following places:
- Floravita
- Aroma49
- Flavorhook
- Solubaroma
- Nemzeti Dohánybolt (National Tobacconist - nicotine boosters only here)
E-cigarette Choice and Reliability
Considering replacing a pack-a-day cigarette habit and cost-effectiveness, pod systems or starter kits might be the best choices. They are generally easy to use, compact, and not too expensive.
I’ve looked up a few threads on the Vaperina forum where others have discussed this:
- Starter Kit, MTL (Mouth-to-Lung) Kit, DL (Direct-to-Lung) Kit
- Starter Kit, MTL Kit, DL Kit – You can find a lot of useful info about different types here.
- Pod Systems
- General Information on Pod Systems – This thread can also help you get oriented.
What to look for regarding reliability and cost-effectiveness?
- Simplicity: As a beginner, it’s wise to choose a device that doesn’t require too many settings or maintenance. Pod systems are very good for this.
- Battery Life: For all-day use, it’s important that the battery can withstand heavy use or is easily rechargeable.
- Price of Spare Parts (Coils/Pods): Check the price of replaceable parts, as these will affect your monthly costs in the long run.
- Brand: There are tried-and-tested brands that generally have good experiences (e.g., Vaporesso, Uwell, Voopoo, Geekvape). It’s worth choosing from these.
Important Legal Information in Hungary:
- Disposable e-cigarettes (e.g., Elf Bar, Poco Bar) are illegal in Hungary. Do not buy them, as you could face serious penalties!
- There are no public vape shops in Hungary.
- Ordering from foreign webshops can be risky. Authorities might confiscate the package and impose fines. Always keep this in mind if you plan to order from abroad!
I hope this helps you get started! If you have any more questions or anything is unclear, just let me know! ![]()
