After several years, I’ve dipped back into the world of vaping. After an initial failed attempt, I’ve now been smoke-free for over a month
Unfortunately, I only found this forum 2-3 weeks ago - thanks to @Helomi78, I managed to get my “starter” set with the help of ChatGPT - An Innokin Coolfire Z80 with a Zenith II.
However, I would like to try RTA (A Hellvape Dead Rabbit MTL 2 RTA and a Dwarf clone are already on their way and will soon be in my hands), but there are 1-2 things that are not entirely clear, and I would ask for your help with these.
1; When building my own coil, I need to dry burn it, which is fine. Do I need to do the same if I use a pre-built coil initially? - It seems logical that I should, but confirmation would be helpful.
2; I bought an Ohm meter (suggested by ChatGPT) which has a “fire” option. Meaning, it applies voltage to the coil. However, it doesn’t state how many watts it uses for this… Can this be used, or is it better to do it on the MOD? (To be honest, I’m a bit afraid that I might turn the MOD into a paperweight if I mess something up)
Sorry if I didn’t use the correct terminology, I am still getting familiar with the jargon
Congratulations on surviving 1 month without analog!
Yes, the goal is the same, an even glow from the inside out
I don’t know about that, theoretically if it only measures, it won’t burn anything. I usually check on the mod how many ohms the coil build resulted in, I don’t measure separately. After a while you’ll figure out that you only need a 2mm diameter for 5 wraps or more/less…
Hi. Yes, as they wrote, priming is necessary even for the pre-wrapped ones. Who knows what kind of lubricants, chemicals, or anything might remain on them during manufacturing. I also build and prime on the mod, but that thing you bought is also good. The mod tips over easily, and if you accidentally grab the glowing coil, you won’t be laughing. Start priming at a low wattage. It depends on the wire what wattage is good for it. Honestly, I don’t usually adjust anything on the mod either because I use only one type of tank wire.
Hi @Roland_Resch! Welcome back here! Thank you for mentioning me! For your questions, many, many answers have already arrived from those more experienced than me, so I can neither add nor take away anything. Didn’t I tell you that you’d find many helpers here!
But just this much: you can see how quickly the coil heats up anyway, just press the button intermittently for a short time until it turns nice and red! When it’s glowing nicely, release the button. 1-2 sec. Oh, and gently scrape it during heating (only with ceramic tweezers) or afterwards. Etc., etc.
