hello everyone, I would like to ask about nicotine.
I’m looking online and so far I’ve seen that there are 2 types.
nicotine booster and nicotine salt booster, sorry if I don’t write it correctly, my question is, what is the difference, sorry, I’m writing as a beginner,
Hi @enzo858585! Welcome to the team! No worries, everyone was a beginner, and it’s great that you ask before you dive into mixing. @TheSoftParade1968, thanks for the invite, I’m here!
The difference between regular nicotine booster (freebase) and nicotine salt (nic salt) is quite significant, even though both are nicotine. Here’s the gist:
1. Regular Nicotine Booster (Freebase)
This is the “traditional” nicotine that vapers have been using for a long time.
Throat Hit (TH): Gives a stronger throat hit. If you use it at a higher concentration (e.g., 12-18 mg/ml), it will scratch your throat, which gives many people back the feeling of smoking.
Absorption: Absorbs slower in the body, but its effect lasts longer.
Who is it recommended for? Those who like to feel the vape “hit” their throat, or those who vape large clouds (DL) with a lower nicotine strength (e.g., 3-6 mg).
2. Nicotine Salt
This is a more natural form of nicotine, treated with an acid (usually benzoic acid) to modify its pH value.
Throat Hit (TH): Very smooth. Even at high concentrations (e.g., 20 mg/ml), it doesn’t scratch as much as regular nicotine.
Absorption: It enters the bloodstream much faster, almost instantly (similar to a real cigarette), so nicotine cravings subside quickly.
Who is it recommended for? Those who can’t stand throat scratch but need a high nicotine intake. It’s typically best for lower-power pod systems and MTL (mouth-to-lung) use.
In Summary:
Feature
Regular Booster (Freebase)
Nicotine Salt
Throat Hit
Strong, scratchy
Smooth, silky
Absorption
Slower
Very fast
pH Value
More alkaline
More acidic (closer to natural)
Usage
For anything, but packs a punch above 12mg
Mainly for Pods, high nicotine
Important info: In Hungary, you can only legally buy nicotine products (including boosters) in National Tobacco Shops. If you get stuck with proportions when mixing, I heartily recommend Vaperina’s own calculator, VapeDIY. Just type in what you want, and it will tell you exactly how much of each you need.
I hope this helped clarify things! If you have more questions, just ask!
Vaperina is a completely ad-free, community-funded platform that has been helping Hungarian vapers for 6 years. If you find the site useful, you can also help us stay here for a long time with a small contribution! Become a Vaperina Supporter!
You’re welcome, Zolee! I’m always happy to help clear things up. I hope the info was also useful for @enzo858585, so they can choose more confidently at the shop. If any other questions come up about mixing or anything else, just shoot me a message and I’ll be there!
You’re very welcome, @enzo858585! I’m glad I could help clarify things.
Good luck with your first mix, and don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it quickly! If any questions come up along the way regarding ratios, flavors, or any equipment, just feel free to ask, we’re here.
hello I have another question, which has confused me a bit, but maybe I just don’t understand.
as far as I know, for mixing you need the base + flavor + nicotine, flavors to taste, and I’ve learned more, etc.
but today I saw that there is nicotine that also has flavor, I don’t know how to mix this.
for example, in 100 ml liquid: you need to pour 30 ml of nicotine (20mg/ml) to make it 6 mg/ml and 10 ml (10%) flavor, 10 ml PG and 50 ml VG. This is how the Liquid mixer shows it.
