What do you think will be the fate of classic mods and rebuildable atomizers? It’s clear that quite a few manufacturers are now focusing almost exclusively on simpler pod systems, and the new generation doesn’t want to bother with wicking and coils anymore.
Do you think manufacturers will completely switch over, and regulated devices will become niche products forever, like “old-school” relics? Or will they never completely abandon the RTA market?
I really hope there will always be demand for quality and control, but I also can’t imagine manufacturers pushing a category that yields them significantly less profit.
I think that generation who switched from analog cigarettes are best at searching for and finding similarities. For concentrates and organic options, the DIY approach is natural due to economic reasons and the possibilities for variation.
For the new generation, due to convenience and a lack of previous pleasures, expectations couldn’t form; it’s just a status symbol, blowing clouds, and even getting used to subpar flavors and devices due to the lack of a frame of reference.
No young person likes robust beers, but they do like the so-called strawberry, lemonade syrups…
What you’re writing is very true. But is there a way back, or is it more of a step beyond the convenience offered by pods?
I mean by this that of course, if one uses specific liquids as you also alluded to, then an RTA/RDA setup is economically better, but for the average user (of whom there might be more), it might just be perfect for them. If there’s no demand for the more advanced level, then the manufacturer is also unlikely to push it.
I personally experienced a period when I only vaped pods for about 2 months, and afterwards, it was even a minor challenge for me to re-wick/re-coil etc… Not because I had forgotten, just because of the convenience. This might be for someone who only vapes pods and hasn’t even tried the other [setup], it would be even harder to convince themselves to go for the more laborious route.
Honestly, I don’t know where this world is heading, but I believe there will always be demand for RTAs! Quality, appearance, precision - that’s what an RTA is!! I vaped with pod systems for a year, but I can’t imagine doing it again!
There is a way back, but not for everyone, and supply and other circumstances will also influence it. Perhaps a segment will have a demand for flavors, for tinkering. It’s like cooking nowadays. Many people eat nonstop fast food, delivery meals. But a segment doesn’t give up on cooking, eating old, traditional, unique dishes.
I will never have a 60,000-puff neon-colored setup, I doubt it, I’ll go back sooner…
I don’t think there’s really a way back. Public taste can be shaped and refined through information, pressure, and by appealing to vanity, say, in the culinary field or in the realm of beers or wines, but this is inconceivable for tobacco products and devices.
Young people online, recognizing the risks of ‘disposables’, might feel targeted and perhaps switch at the anticipated price point, which, for commercial products, carries the possibility of disappointment… This is not to suggest that only high-end is the favorite… There are certainly good and usable devices at a low price point; the question is whether that’s what they encounter first.
If this is how it turns out, what is it largely thanks to? The very smart, gatekeeper-backed ‘propaganda’ restrictions, making things impossible, and in parallel, the emergence of shoddy, unchecked, fake, illicitly traded goods. Because it’s true that those who are interested unfortunately choose from the available offerings… they hardly see any normal alternatives.
(Convenience also overrides quality, which is also a big shame… atomizers and the like, ready-made ‘tasty’ tobacco shop e-liquids).
Smoking, cigar smoking, and pipe smoking are a ritualistic, joyful, and self-rewarding activity.
In the past, there were cigar and pipe rooms where thinkers would retreat after dinner to evaluate world events. A considered answer to a posed question was always preceded by packing a pipe, thus gaining temporal respite for the considered answer or opinion.
If the sole consideration is a bad habit, a substitute action, and getting enough nicotine, then the meticulous enjoyment we derive from it – reaping the rewards of a quiet, flavorful coil build and wicking – truly has no place.
We do all this because we have grasped and feel the harm and stench of real tobacco, cigarette paper, and tar…
I must add to my journey: if I hadn’t found Vaperina, I wouldn’t have reached the RTA, but would have gone back to puffing on stink sticks!! I never liked it; the pod just didn’t satisfy me for some reason!! So, thanks to Vaperina, and to the members who helped! It took a lot of patience!! This is my way of pointing out how important Vaperina and similar forums are!!
