Hi everyone 👋 Vaperina moved to a new server early this morning, which I’d like to briefly introduce so you can see what has changed behind the scenes. ### Why was the move necessary? Vaperina is a community site that runs several resource-intensive components in the background: - web application (Unicorn) - background processes (Sidekiq) - database (PostgreSQL) - image processing, search - etc. The previous server was already approaching its reasonable capacity limits, so the goal was to switch before problems appeared. ### What is the new server like? The site now runs in a more modern, higher-performance environment: - more CPU cores (dedicated) → better parallel serving - more memory (dedicated) → more efficient caching - faster NVMe storage → faster database operations ### Old → New CPU architecture: Intel Xeon → AMD EPYC 9645 CPU: 2 vCPU → 8 vCPU (dedicated) RAM: 4 GB DDR4 → 16 GB DDR5 (dedicated) Storage (NVMe): 128 GB → 1 TB The new server runs on a modern AMD EPYC-based infrastructure with dedicated CPU and memory resources, resulting in noticeably faster and more stable operation even under load. ### What does dedicated resource mean? This is a guarantee of stability. It means these resources are not shared with others; the server’s full power is available 100% for Vaperina, thus avoiding slowdowns caused by other sites and allowing us to consistently deliver the same performance. ### System tuning Several system parameters were retuned during the migration: - optimized PostgreSQL memory usage - more web workers - larger safety buffer (swap) for stability ### What does this mean in practice? - faster page loading - more stable operation under higher load - fewer unexpected slowdowns or outages - a better foundation for future development ### Data security No data loss occurred during the migration. I am continuing to monitor the site’s operation to ensure everything is in order. If anyone experiences anything unusual, please feel free to report it. Thank you :vaperina: ❤ ---
