Hi everyone! Perhaps I should be embarrassed with a year of vaping experience, but I don’t really understand the dangers of mech mods. What should I pay attention to? Do I need an unprotected battery? Are known settings safe, e.g., for a 1.2 [ohm](https://vaperina.cc/t/-/183?silent=true#ellenlls-4) [coil](https://vaperina.cc/t/-/187?silent=true#coil-16) at 10-12W? Can I adjust this without problems? Or where can the use of a mech go wrong, with the dangers they warn about? ---

Úúúúú. A protected battery is highly recommended because you don’t know when the battery will discharge. There is a risk of deep discharge. Batteries safely operate down to 3.2 volts, and normal chargers recognize them up to this point. Below that, the battery is considered dead. At 2.75V, they offer an explosive experience. Chip-based mods will no longer allow use at 3.3V. The wattage you paired with 1.2 [Ohm](https://vaperina.cc/t/-/183?silent=true#ellenlls-4) might give a harsher feel than you’re used to. With mechanical mods, calculating resistance is key. V (voltage) is W (power), I (current) is A (Amps), R (resistance) is [Ohm](https://vaperina.cc/t/-/183?silent=true#ellenlls-4). V=I x R. The battery we use intermittently delivers 1.5 times more Amps than in normal operation. Very nice, clean design. Is there a mod that measures resistance? Then you can build whatever you want, measure it, try it out, or use a [coil](https://vaperina.cc/t/-/187?silent=true#coil-16) calculator. It can be easily used. Maybe the [coil](https://vaperina.cc/t/-/187?silent=true#coil-16) you are using now, e.g. 1.3 [Ohm](https://vaperina.cc/t/-/183?silent=true#ellenlls-4), is around 12-13.5 watts by default, but you only use it at 9.5-10w. Since you can’t adjust it, there are 2 options: 1. You get used to it being a bit stronger, or 2. You build a [coil](https://vaperina.cc/t/-/187?silent=true#coil-16) with higher resistance. In [MTL](https://vaperina.cc/t/-/187?silent=true#mtl-25), a battery will surely last 2-2.5 days, but you don’t know the limit of its power. This is why a protected battery is recommended. Since there is no regulation, it drains the battery’s power to the extreme. You feel where the limit is, but you have to experience it a lot. 10 out of 10 dentists and plastic surgeons recommend using a protected battery. 🤣 ---

Hello everyone! In the very beginning, mechanical mods were widespread. I never used protected batteries. I never had problems with over-discharge; when the battery reaches 3.6 volts, it’s already significantly noticeable on the vape that it needs charging and replacement.
